Camp Jackson Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony, TRUE Community Credit Union, 1100 Clinton Road, Jackson. 4-23-22. Hosted by Jackson County Michigan Historical Society. Camp Jackson on this site was a training ground for Civil War recruits in the 20th and 26th regiments of the Michigan Volunteer Infantry. Training for the over 1,000 men there began July 1862 and included regimental drills and target practice. It was also where the men received their Springfield and Enfield rifles, their uniforms, and where many recuperated from—and some succumbed to—sickness. Photos by Jeff Steers, JTV News.
