HARTFORD CITY, IN – For the first time in her promising career, Carlie Newman has received the Crossroads League Player of the Week honor. Newman was named the player of the week on the strength of her 25 point, 12 rebound performance in Saturday’s 60-53 win over Rochester College.
Last year, Newman was named to the Crossroads League All-Freshman and so far this season, she has no idea what a sophomore slump is. Newman leads the Crossroads League in rebounds per game (9.3), blocks per game (1.4), and is second in points per game (22.0).
Newman’s leadership has guided Spring Arbor to the first 3-0 start in at least 8 seasons and the Cougars will attempt to remain unbeaten against the 16th ranked Siena Heights Saints at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Adrian, MI.
