By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 16, 2021 4:31 PM) East Jackson High School will induct its inaugural Sports Hall of Fame class on Aug. 27. The Trojans will induct a total of six athletes, coaches, and a volunteer during halftime of the EJHS/Stockbridge football game at East Jackson. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with halftime at approximately 8 p.m. The inductees will include athletes Kary Tomaw-Swiontek, Jacob DuBois, and Ray Eggleston; coaches James Nelson and Gerald Snyder; and volunteer Bob Hicks. “We formed a committee in 2019 made up of teaches, coaches, alumni, school board members and administrators,” EJHS Athletic Director Jeff Punches said. “The group created the Hall of Fame, bylaws, and set up the induction process.” Punches said the event was delayed in 2020 due to COVID-19. “This has been something that I have wanted to do for several years,” Punches said. “To see it coming to fruition is amazing.” Punches hopes future student athletes see this as a goal. Inductees will receive a plaque as a personal memento and their name and photos will be displayed by the gymnasium. The school is accepting nominations for the 2022 class at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfSKP5Yokepfd1dh9_bJGgXjoaHH4RhMRtziNUeBdtZrCSY4A/viewform.
First-year East Jackson High School head football Coach Joe Niehaus, far left, expects players, from left, Carson Pelton, Bryce Johnson, Mason Dingee, Austin Tingley, and Cooper Pelton to be key components for the Trojans this season. By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (August 3, 2021 10:52 AM) East Jackson High School football will have a missing ingredient for the 2021 season. The Trojans are stacked on the offensive and defensive line. First-year head Coach Joe Niehaus hopes that will equate to wins and earn the Trojans at least five victories. East Jackson was 1-6 a year ago but has struggled for wins in the past decade. The Trojans have earned eight wins since 2012. The team’s last winning season was in 2011 with a 5-4 record. Niehaus comes from Grass Lake and says the Trojans have nearly 30 players on the varsity team. “We need to get better on every rep,” Niehaus said. “Rome wasn’t built is a day. “There is no magic button … it takes time. You can’t bring it one day and take a step back the next day.” Niehaus said the Trojans have solid linemen on both sides starting with Bryce Johnson (OL/DL), Brian Hammer (OL/DL), and…
