We have a couple backs who are explosive, but I thought we blocked really well.” Lumen got the ball first, and made the most of the opening drive, covering 55 yards to take a 7-0 lead when Josh Marsh scored on a 36-yard run. Northwest showed its ability to move the ball as well, getting all the way to the Lumen 18 yard line before failing to convert on fourth down. Lumen Christi Grad Shoots Career Low for Albion Mens Golf

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Lumen Christi High School graduate Connor Maddalena shot a career-best 71 to finish tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard for the Lou Collins Memorial played at the Bedford Valley Country Club. Maddalena finished the tournament with a 3-over par 147 total. Tyler Covell, who produced Albion’s low score of 72 in Friday’s first round, turned in a 77 to finish tied for 16th with a 149 total. Jake Hinkle (73) and Brandon Rincon (81) contributed to Albion’s 32 score. Albion’s 36-hole total of 610 was good for seventh in the team standings. Calvin College (574) and Trine University (583) were the top two teams. Albion will compete against all of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals for the first time this season when it hosts a round at The Medalist Golf Club on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Lumen Christi Grad Helps Albion Golf to Strong Start

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Albion College men’s golf team is celebrating its best round in two years. The Britons achieved a 308 score Friday to lock into a tie for sixth after the first round of the Lou Collins Memorial Invitational at the Bedford Valley Country Club. Tyler Covell shot an even-par 72. His career-best round launched him into a tie for sixth on the individual leader board. He was four shots off the pace set by Calvin College’s James Van Noord and Owens Community College’s Porsche Kitipongpata. Connor Maddalena (a junior who prepped at Lumen Christi) contributed a round of 76, the second-best score of his collegiate career. Jim Chapman, Jake Hinkle and Brandon Rincon all returned to the clubhouse after rounds of 80. Calvin College leads the team standings at 289. Owens Community College (291), Trine University (295), Hope College (298), and Kalamazoo College (301) round out the top five.
