Grass Lake Earns First Basketball State Title

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (April 9, 2021 7:52 PM) Grass Lake High School varsity basketball player Lexus Bargesser said she concentrates on free throws like each one is to win a state title. On Friday she had a chance to put that theory to work. Bargesser made four free throws in the final 36 seconds to win the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state title. The Warriors defeated Kent City 52-50 at the MHSAA Division 3 finals at the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University. Grass Lake finishes the season with a 20-1 record while Kent City suffers its only loss of the season with a 22-1 record. It is the Warriors' first state title in girls’ basketball. Grass Lake appeared to be in cruise control with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game and leading 44-34. But Kent City hit two consecutive 3-point baskets on their next two possessions. Beecher Too Much for H-H in D-3 Basketball Semifinals

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (April 8, 2021 3:09 PM) Hanover-Horton High School boys’ basketball Coach Chad Mortimer said he always went to the high school final four with his son Conner. The dream was to play in the final four some day with Chad as the coach and Conner as the player. That dream came true on Thursday as Hanover-Horton faced Flint Beecher in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 semifinal at the Breslin Student Event Center. But it did not end in Disney fashion as Beecher defeated the Comets 47-34. Hanover-Horton finishes the season with a 20-2 record and a lot of memories of surviving COVID-19 and winning titles. “I couldn’t be any prouder of this team … they did everything I asked for them to do,” Coach Mortimer said. “These guys sacrificed so much going into a bubble 10 days before the tournament started. “They are an outstanding group of young men.” Hanover-Horton lost…
