Chucky’s Week 5 Game Picks

Chucky is cloaked in impressiveness after getting back on track last weekend with another 10-2 week of picks. The quest for perfection, however, continues and this week he feels really, really good about things. Plus, he won $5 on a scratch-off. NORTHWEST @ LUMEN CHRISTI: After a pair of wins to start the season, the wheels are starting to wobble a little bit on the Mounties wagon. A match-up with Lumen Christi generally doesn’t help when this happens. Northwest invites the Titans to an all-you-can-eat pizza party at Klavon’s and schedules it for game time to throw LC off the path. The ploy doesn’t work. PICK: LUMEN CHRISTI WESTERN @ LESLIE: Western lost a close one last week to Lansing Waverly, while the Blackhawks are still searching for that elusive first win. Leslie tries a little misdirection of their own by creating signs in art class to send the Panther bus through a corn maize. Western isn’t fooled. PICK: WESTERN BLISSFIELD @ COLUMBIA CENTRAL: Controversy swirls when it’s announced there’s never actually been a Golden Eagle spotted in the Brooklyn area. Blissfield is confused because they’re the Royals and, well, no one really knows what a Royal is. PICK: COLUMBIA…

Western falls to Waverly 21-13

Derek Devine, JTV Sports One more stop – that’s all the Western Panthers really needed on Friday night to knock off Lansing Waverly and get their season back on track. Leading 13-7 with nine minutes remaining, the Panthers had forced Waverly into a 4th-and-8 at the Western 33 yard line. A stop here would give Coach Dave Mifsud’s team the ball back, the momentum from a huge defensive stand and the lead with the clock on their side. Instead Waverly QB Airic Boyce found Austin Edwards for 9 yards and a first down. One play after that Boyce hit Kevin Kirkland on a 24 yard touchdown. It was suddenly 14-13 Waverly and the Panthers never recovered. Three possessions later the Waverly defense pounced on a fumble in the end zone to extend their lead to 21-13, which ended up being the final. After an impressive opening night victory over Lake Odessa-Lakewood, Western has dropped three straight to fall to 1-3. But there were some bright spots. Easton Oliver carried the ball 28 times for 135 yards and a touchdown and his ability to run the ball opened things up for QB Ryan Conklin. Oliver’s power running softened up the Waverly…

Chucky’s Week 4 Game Picks

Chucky is humiliated and offers a formal apology to everyone after last week’s picks, which were far below his normal high stand of around 83% success. A 7-5 weekend has convinced him that changes need to be made, starting with picking against Springport – which he vows never to do again. So, just as the cruise ship Costa Concordia was hauled off a reef and righted once again, so to shall Chucky Buckles in his quest for pick perfection. LUMEN CHRISTI @ CHARLOTTE: Charlotte looked unstoppable in their first two games (both wins) but came back down to earth in a loss to Eaton Rapids last weekend. In a surprise move, the Orioles coaching staff invites the Akron football team in to give a pre-game pep talk. Sadly, the Zips leave without finishing the job and this carries over. PICK: LUMEN CHRISTI EAST JACKSON @ VANDERCOOK LAKE: The Jayhawks surprise EJ by claiming that, in lieu of a football game, they will settle their differences in a fish-eating contest at the Bone Island Grill. By the time the Trojans realize they’ve been duped, they’ve already consumed a half ton of fish and are extremely sluggish. PICK: VANDERCOOK LAKE EATON RAPIDS…

Warriors Defense Holds Off Michigan Center in Comeback Win

By Derek Devine JTV Sports (Grass Lake, MI) --Tonight’s premier Week 3 matchup between Michigan Center and Grass Lake gave a true feel that High School football is definitely back. And if a rematch that had been circled on the calendar for almost a year and a fifty-degree ball field weren’t already enough, the hard hitting, down-to-the-wire action was. Michigan Center held the Warrior offense to nothing on its first possession and forced a three and out. 73 yards later, the Cardinals found themselves up seven. Dylan Zaborowski scrambled and found Connor Brandt  wide open in the end zone for a 7-yard score. They allowed one first down on their second defensive outing, and forced yet another Warrior punt. Grass Lake’s third possession wasn’t any more successful as Zaborowski showed skill on the defensive side of the ball with a leaping interception. Josh Padelt had some nice runs to help the drive move towards goal line, and Zaborowski eventually capped of a clock-eating drive to start the second quarter with a 5-yard touchdown run. On the next possession, Grass Lake finally found a rhythm with their running game. “It took awhile,” stated Coach Randy Cole, “but we put together a…

Chucky Buckles Week 3 Game Picks

With a second straight impressive week at 10-2, Chucky Buckles proudly flaunts a 20-4 record after two weeks. Overall, that’s about 83% or a solid B- if he were back in school.   MICHIGAN CENTER @ GRASS LAKE: In an act seldom seen at the high school level, the entire Cardinals team parachutes into the stadium before the game to avoid the traffic congestion for what should be the area’s premier regular season matchup. Center’s flare for the big play – especially on offense – gives them the edge. Drum roll please… PICK: MICHIGAN CENTER WESTERN @ LUMEN CHRISTI: Panther bus gets turned around and hopelessly lost on the new service road on their campus, causing fans to worry. Titan players offer to help, but only make it as far as McCarski’s Café before stopping for donut dots. PICK: LUMEN CHRISTI VANDERCOOK LAKE @ MANCHESTER : Vandy battle cry of ‘rock chalk Jayhawk’ is quickly silenced when they realize a Flying Dutchmen is an old, old pirate ghost ship that may or may not still be sailing the seven seas looking for a port. A spooky old ghost ship always wins. PICK: MANCHESTER HANOVER-HORTON @ ADDISON: The Comets are off…
