Whisman Dominates on Mound With No Let Down Attitude

By Jeff Steers JTV Sports (May 1, 2022 8:00 AM) As the wins, no-hitters, and strikeouts continue to pile up, one would think that Western High School junior Hailey Whisman would kick back and enjoy the ride. Not this rock star. Armed with a black paint emblem straight out of the KISS day, glitter and an improving fastball, Whisman has led Western to a 12-2 record heading into a showdown with Northwest at home on Wednesday.  The Panthers – and Whisman – are on a 12-game winning streak since losing its first two games of the season against Napoleon.  Whisman has 139 strikeouts in just over 71 innings pitched. She has only surrendered 25 earned runs in those innings. The junior decided to make softball her main sport this season, competing all year in travel softball.  “I have been working hard on my endurance and speed (on her pitches),” Whisman said. “I have learned to never take a pitch off.” That has worked for the soft-spoken junior who looks a lot tougher on the mound than she sounds in person.
