Michigan Reports 3,011* Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 551,080

(January 25, 2021 3:37 PM) Michigan reported 3,011* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 551,080. Michigan is reporting 35 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 14,326. *Note on cases (01/25/21): Today’s daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since Saturday, January 23rd.  Over the two days, Sunday and Monday, the average number of new confirmed cases is ~1,505 per day. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 1/22/21): 463,106. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

Hurst Foundation Contributing $60K to Jackson YMCA Capital Campaign

(January 25, 2021 12:22 PM) Today, the Jackson YMCA announced that the Hurst Foundation is contributing $60,000 to the Y’s campaign for a contemporary new facility in downtown Jackson. Led by President Anthony P Hurst, the foundation has granted more than $15 million over the past 50 years in support of local, state and national communities. “We are proud to support the Y as they work to build a new downtown facility,” said Hurst. “For decades our foundation has contributed to work that improves the well-being of our community, and we believe in the YMCA mission to better the mental and physical health of all Jackson residents.” Established in 1955 by Peter F. Hurst, who believed in giving back to the community, the Hurst Foundation’s local philanthropic efforts have included the Ella Sharp Museum, the Jackson Community Foundation, and the installation of the Peter F. Hurst Planetarium in collaboration with Jackson Public Schools. Each year the Hurst Foundation grants nearly $500,000 to local projects and groups. Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,544 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 195 Deaths

(January 25, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,544 positive cases (cumulative), and 195 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 36 new cases and 1 new death since Saturday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 25, 2020:  7,118** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 7:30 PM January 22, there are 4,440 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 560 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 4 PM January 18, there 19 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Consumers Energy Providing $3 Million to Help Michigan Residents with Energy Bills

(January 25, 2021 8:10 AM) Consumers Energy announced today it is helping Michigan residents through the cold winter with an additional $3 million to help with energy bills. In total, the company and its charitable foundation have provided $21 million to support customers and communities with needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are committed to making sure our friends and neighbors receive every bit of help during this extraordinary time,” said Brian Rich, Consumers Energy’s chief customer officer. “We expect our new $3 million contribution to seven Michigan nonprofits will help thousands of households continue to manage their bills while more Michiganders receive vaccinations and our state starts to fully reopen.” Consumers Energy has taken extra steps to meet customers’ needs due to the pandemic. Customers can qualify for the new funding if they are at up to 400% of federal poverty guidelines.
