Michigan Reports 2,165 Coronavirus Cases Today, State Total Now 544,311

(January 21, 2021 4:22 PM) Michigan reported 2,165 coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 544,311. Michigan is reporting 148* COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 14,053. *The deaths announced today includes 128 deaths identified during a Vital Records review. See cumulative data page for more information. State Cumulative Total of Recovered COVID-19 Cases (as of 1/15/21): 442,408. This information is updated Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.  Monday reports include Sunday data.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 8,437 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 189 Deaths

(January 21, 2021 12:00 PM) The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12 PM today, there are 8,437 positive cases (cumulative), and 189 deaths (cumulative)*.     There are 53 new cases and 1 new death since yesterday’s report.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 21, 2020:  6,938** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received. The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 6 PM January 15, there are 4,369 confirmed positive cases at Jackson facilities and 552 confirmed positive staff cases.  MDOC positive case numbers are cumulative. As of 4 PM January 18, there 19 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19. Note:  Jackson County will post COVID-19 data daily by mid-afternoon, Monday-Saturday, keeping with the schedule established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). MDHHS Announces Food Assistance Recipients Will See Additional Benefits by End of January 

(January 21, 2021 11:03 AM) The more than 1.2 million people in Michigan who are eligible for food assistance benefits will receive an additional payment by the end of January that raises their monthly amount by 15% to help families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 15% increase in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is for six months, ending in June. The increase is included in the recently passed Congressional relief bill. “No Michigander should worry about how they’ll put food on the table for themselves and their family, especially during a pandemic,” said Gov. Whitmer. “COVID-19 is still a very real threat to our state, and we must continue providing crucial support to families that need it most. “I want to thank Sen. Stabenow for her leadership in securing this important increase and for her tireless efforts to expand access to food assistance, which has brought relief to so many Michiganders in need throughout this pandemic.” Michigan food assistance recipients will see the 15% increase added to their Bridge Cards by the end of January that are in addition to benefits they received earlier in the month.
