Weather Doesn’t Spoil Concord Classic Opening Night

The Cornhole Tournament is one of the more popular events at the Concord Classic Weekend. Photo by Jeff Steers, JTV News. But later in the afternoon the weather cleared, the rain stopped, and the Friday night activities were a go. “We just rolled the dice and went with it,” Lehman said. “We saw a break in the weather later in the afternoon.” The Concord Classic Weekend has been moved to Gottschalk Park for space purposes. There are more than two dozen vendors at the event this weekend. Lehman said having a chance to have everything in one place was key for the switch from downtown to Gottschalk Park – a quarter mile west of downtown Concord. The event raises money for Concord High School. “We expect to raise about $10,000 for the school, but we put a lot of money back into the festival,” Lehman said. The event also marks the 150th anniversary of Concord becoming…

The former Michigan State Prison on Cooper Street, which is surrounded by current Jackson MDOC facilities.  JTV photo. (June 25, 2021 11:12 AM) The Michigan Department of Corrections is reporting as of 10:30 AM June 25, there are now only 8 active COVID-19 cases among prisoners statewide, with 3 of those cases at Jackson facilities.  This is the lowest number of cases since the start of the pandemic. MDOC spokesman Chris Gautz credits the reduction in cases to the availability of vaccines.  “We are down to 8 active cases among the prisoners, which is outstanding.  All prisoners have been offered the vaccine and that's been true for months now. We were very aggressive in getting them access to it, as well as our staff,” Gautz told JTV News.  “We continue to make the vaccines available to prisoners and currently 62% have been vaccinated.” MDOC reports vaccination statistics weekly to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and a breakdown by facility can be found here. As of this week, prisoners and staff are no longer required to wear a mask while outside. Prisoners and staff must still maintain social distancing. The Department says trends are moving in the right direction, which…
