Habitat for Humanity Announces Affordable Housing Project of Fourteen Homes

(JTV Photo) Plans for an affordable housing project were unveiled Monday, June 17 by Greater Jackson Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Wendy Clow. Greater Jackson Habitat for Humanity and Community Action Agency are partnering with the City of Jackson to build 14 new homes for low-to-moderate income families in Partnership Park, a neighborhood south of Downtown Jackson. The plans were announced Monday afternoon at an event attended by dozens of people from the Jackson community. City officials and local leaders talked about the project, which will include four single-family homes and 10 townhomes. The new housing will take shape on the same block in Partnership Park. The townhomes are being built on the 100 block of W. Franklin Street, and the single-family homes are being built on the 100 block of W. Mason Street. Groundbreaking for New Cascades Elementary School June 18
On Tuesday, June 18, Jackson Public Schools will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Cascades Elementary School, a state-of-the-art facility that will feature a media center, flexible seating, updated security features, 21st century learning and more. This development is funded by the $86.7 million bond that voters passed in May 2018. Students from the former Cascades School were combined with Frost Elementary School for the start of the 2018/2019 school year so that the demolition of the old Cascades building could take place in early spring 2019. The new building is a $16 million project and the new Cascades is slated to be open by the fall of 2021. “This project marks the beginning of a new Jackson Public Schools,” Superintendent Jeff Beal said. “We are grateful to the Jackson Community for making the single largest investment in the Jackson Public School District and look forward to the beautiful new 21st learning elementary school.” The ceremony will take place at 1200 S Wisner St from 4-5 p.m. Handicapped parking will be available.
