Symphony Chooses Maestro Stephen Osmond’s Successor

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Matthew Aubin as the orchestra’s new Music Director Designate for the 2016-2017 season moving into the role of Music Director in the 2017-2018 season. The selection process consisted of 6 visiting guest conductors performing with the orchestra, an evaluation method including both orchestra and audience input and a selection committee. Board Chair Tim Keener said, “Jackson and the JSO in particular are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Aubin’s skill and experience to take the helm of the orchestra moving forward. It’s also very beneficial that he and his wife now make Jackson their home. ” “From 76 applicants we narrowed it down to six, each of whom did an excellent job with the orchestra. We are so fortunate to have attracted such an impressive pool of talent. I think it was most fortunate that the audience and the orchestra had the same first choice.” says Maestro Stephen Osmond looking forward to his 40th and final season with the JSO in a conductorial capacity. When asked for his reaction to the appointment, Dr. Aubin said, “I’m excited and honored to have been appointed Music Director Designate of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra…

Statewide Tornado Drill Set for April 13

With Gov. Rick Snyder declaring Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week from April 10-16, the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) is calling upon Michiganders to take action to prepare by participating in a voluntary statewide tornado drill at 1:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 13. Businesses, organizations, families and individuals are encouraged to be a part of this statewide preparedness activity, but are not required to do so. Nearly all state of Michigan facilities will be participating. “Tornadoes can develop rapidly, with little or no warning,” said Capt. Chris A. Kelenske, Deputy State Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and commander of the MSP/EMHSD. “Due to their unpredictable nature, we must be ready well in advance. We’re asking citizens and businesses to take few extra steps during the week to ensure they’re prepared and safe.” While tornadoes can occur during any time of the year, they are especially common during the late spring and early summer months. As one of nature’s most violent storms, they can devastate homes and property in just seconds. The average lead time for tornadoes to develop is 10 to 15 minutes, which means citizens need to be ready to react…
