JTV and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm Announce “Hometown Heroes” Program

JTV and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm announce the launch of “Hometown Heroes”, a program designed to honor First Responders in the JTV viewing area who have demonstrated bravery, compassion, courage, dedication and selflessness in the line of duty. JTV will be asking viewers to nominate Hometown Heroes via the station website (www.jtv.tv) during the month of June. A panel of judges will choose five finalists whose stories will be told on the Sam Bernstein Law Firm Facebook page. Viewers and Facebook visitors will then be asked to vote for their favorite Hometown Hero from among the finalists. The top vote-getter will be honored with an appearance on “The Bart Hawley Show” on JTV, a Hometown Heroes award plaque and a contribution of $250 to their favorite charity. Chris Knight returns to The WAX stage on Sunday, June 7

Jackson, MI - Singer-songwriter Chris Knight was greeted by a full-house audience last December and is hoping to draw even more fans in his second appearance with Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s increasingly popular Affinity Series on Sunday, June 7 at 7 p.m. Appreciative of the audience response and hospitality on his first visit, it was Chris Knight himself that wanted to make a return visit to downtown Jackson and Affinity Series Director Steve Trosin was more than happy to make it happen. “We are beyond excited to get Chris back on our stage at The Wax. Juneteenth Celebration features free concert with area talent

JACKSON, MI - Jackson College invites the community to celebrate Juneteenth with a free Tribute to Motown concert, featuring the Detroit-area band Hot Ice, with opening acts Code Blu Steel and Brandon Marceal, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. June 20 at the Riverwalk Amphitheater, Jackson. Hot Ice is a seven-piece band that appeals to a broad age range that has been performing its own unique style of music for years. They present a variety of hits from Motown to Top 40, standards, salsa, disco and more. They are top musicians who will have you dancing in the aisles! Opening act Code Blu Steel is a funk band from Jackson that performs a mixture of R&B and rock. They say their music doesn’t really fit into one genre; they try to create music that is loved by all. The acclaimed Detroit based Motown group Rare Earth will be joining The Beach Boys at the Jackson County Fair for an evening of music and fun in Jackson, Michigan! They are set to perform at the fair Monday, August 10th at 7:00p.m. Rare Earth has been sharing their unique talent with the world since the 1960’s. JACKSON, MI: June 1, 2015--Jackson Coffee Co. announced today that it is sponsoring the #70 car at the Nascar Xfinity Race Series at Michigan International Speedway on June 13th. Prosecutor Announces New Commerce Division

Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Jerry Jarzynka announced the creation of a new division within the prosecutor's office focusing on retail fraud, shoplifting and bounced checks at businesses. Several years ago the office eliminated a similar department due to budget cuts. The funding for the new office, to begin in late June, will come from restitution fees and penalties imposed on those convicted of these crimes. Appearing on The Bart Hawley Show, Jarzynka also provided updates on recently concluded cases.

Front Porch Concert Series features great music in fun, casual setting

Enjoy great music in a fun outdoors setting at the 2015 Front Porch Concert Series at Jackson College this June! All concerts begin at 7 p.m.; they are free and the public is welcome! Bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the music! This year’s schedule includes: June 11 — Capital City Brass Band, (CCBB), an all-volunteer brass and percussion ensemble inspired by the traditional British-style brass band model. June 14 — 31st Annual Trombonefest. Trombone players from across the state gather for this one-of-a-kind musical extravaganza. June 18 — Jackson Jazz Ensemble, a local jazz group made up of 20 local jazz musicians under ensemble Director Jim Stuart. June 23 — Jackson Community Concert Band Pre-Fourth of July Concert. Enjoy patriotic favorites like John Philip Sousa’s “The Washington Post March,” Aaron Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait,” narrated by David Phelps, the “1812 Overture” and much more! The band is comprised of college students and community members, under the direction of Conductor Ronald L. Douglass.

Sheriff Department Presents Annual Awards

The Jackson County Sheriff Department presented their annual awards at a banquet May 20 at Cascades Manor House. Sheriff Steve Rand and Undersheriff Chris Kuhl awarded various department members with citations for exemplary service performed over the past year. Jeremy Barnett was honored as Deputy of the Year and Jeffrey Stetz was named Corrections Deputy of the Year. Dispatcher of the Year was Tara Ortwine and Kody Naylor named Civilian of the Year. The Sheriff and Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka presented a special award to Mike Hirst for his work with Andy's Angels in the fight against heroin and drug abuse. The "of the Year" award winners were selected by their peers.

DDA Relocates Cruise Nights Due to Construction Project

Nathan Mack, Downtown Development Authority Assistant Director announced the 2015 season of Downtown Cruise Nights will take place this year. The event, held on the 4th Friday of each month (May thru September) will move one block south to Cortland Street. As in past years, cars will also be displayed on Mechanic and Jackson Streets. The first Cruise Night will take place this Friday, May 22 starting at 6pm. Sidewalks in the construction zone will remain open and several restaurants will be featuring outdoor menus. The event is free and open to all.
