United Way of Jackson County to Merge with Capital Area and Battle Creek-Kalamazoo United Ways

(January 24, 2022 6:45 PM) United Way of Jackson County will merge with two neighboring United Way organizations. The boards of directors for Capital Area United Way, United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region, and United Way of Jackson County voted today to merge their organizations and create a new nonprofit, United Ways of South Central Michigan. The new organization will partner locally and regionally on community impact efforts across six counties—Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson and Kalamazoo. A press release announced this as “a merger of equals, each of the local United Ways brings unique strengths, shared authority and a continued focus on local needs.” The announcement stated, “the merger of three United Ways based in south and mid-Michigan will bring exciting new opportunities to the region while strengthening local impact and maintaining their local presence.” The three United Ways have had similar missions and have worked together on common needs for a decade.  Current CEOs of the organizations say coming together as equal parts of a new United Way is the next logical step.  The announcement said local presence and impact will remain. “Each of our communities is unique, with needs that our individual United Ways…

Voting Open for Jackson Snow Plow Names

(January 24, 2022 3:49 PM) The City of Jackson has opened an online survey to choose the names of Jackson’s five snow plow trucks. Voting is now open on 10 Jackson-centric plow names that were submitted by residents. Earlier this month, the City of Jackson invited residents to submit snow plow names through the City website. Staff looked through more than 300 submissions and picked their top 10 favorite submissions, all of which have a Jackson twist. Michigan Reports 39,372* Coronavirus Cases, State Total Now 1,905,639

(January 24, 2022 3:36 PM)  Michigan reported 39,372* coronavirus (COVID-19) positive test cases today, with the state reported total now at 1,905,639. Michigan is reporting 36 COVID-19-related deaths today with the state total at 29,226.   *Note on cases (01/24/2022): Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report.  Over the three days (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday), the average number of new confirmed cases is 13,124 per day. Information is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 p.m., with COVID-19 results included as of 10 a.m.

Jackson County Cumulative Report: 36,160 COVID-19 Positive Cases and 473 Deaths

(January 24, 2022 12:00 PM)  The Jackson County Health Department released the COVID-19 positive numbers for Jackson County.  As of 12:00 PM today, there are 36,160 positive cases (cumulative), and 473 deaths (cumulative)*.   There are 872 new cases since Friday’s report. As of January 24, there are 70 persons at Henry Ford Allegiance Health being treated as inpatients for COVID-19.  The Jackson County Health Department has announced a change in reporting effective Oct. 6, 2021.  Cases defined as probable will be reported in cumulative case and death counts.  As additional methods of testing besides the PCR test have become more common, the amount of cases classified as probable has increased and are included to provide a more accurate picture of disease in our community.  Cumulative recovered, as of January 24:  28,133** The cumulative numbers posted on Mondays include the data from Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Recovered numbers are being posted as received.  *These numbers do not reflect any cases or deaths identified through Michigan Department of Corrections.  Their numbers are listed under a separate category and reported by the state at Michigan Statistics.
