(August 9, 2021 10:02 AM) That bad news for the Columbia Central High School football team is the Golden Eagles were 2-5 a year ago.

The good news is CCHS returns 14 starters and a core of linebackers.

The Golden Eagles will need a solid defense in the tough Lenawee County Athletic Association.

“Finishing 2-5 last year was not up to our expectations,” CCHS Coach Josh Kubiak said. “We lost three games on the last possession.

“We don’t have any guaranteed wins in our league … we have to get that winning edge back”

The Golden Eagles will use the motto of practice winning every day in 2021.

“”Our speed is a good thing, and we return six starters on offense and eight on defense,” Kubiak said. “We have a good competition at quarterback this season.”

Three players introduced themselves on media day as quarterbacks.

The Golden Eagles return three players who were second-team all-conference in the LCAA a year ago.

Luke McDorman (QB/DB) ran for 439 rushing yards for CCHS, Ty Farmer OL/LB) was the second leading tackler for the Golden Eagles, and Ryan Ladd was second-team as a running back and linebacker for Columbia Central.

Cameron Adams (WR/DB) and Braiden Ellison (RB/LB) are two returnees for CCHS.

“Every year I look forward to the football season,” Adams said.

Ladd expects another tough season in the LCAA in 2021.

“You expect to get beat up every week in conference play,” Ladd said.

Other players expected to make contributions for CCHS this season include Blake Kopacz (WR/DB), Cody Richardson (QB/DB), Braiden Berry (RB/LB), Alan Marshall (OL/DL), Kasey Jordan (OL/DL), and Brendon Bernstein (WR/DB).

The Golden Eagles renew their rivalry with Napoleon to open the season on Aug. 26.

“It is a great rivalry when you have two schools so close to one another,” Kubiak said. “It’s a crazy week.”

The Golden Eagles will have Napoleon, Adrian, Blissfield, Clinton, and Hudson at home this season. CCHS opens the season with four home games in their first five contests.
