MHSAA BASEBALL DISTRICTS

DIVISION 2 at Parma Western

Western 5, Northwest 4: Chase Budd and Isaiah Norwood each batted two hits for the Panthers as they eliminated the rival Mounties in the opening district matchup. 7th-ranked Western is now 29-4 and will face top-5 Williamston in a district semifinal showdown at home on Saturday.

 

DIVISION 3 at Hanover Horton

Hanover Horton 15, Hillsdale 2: Aidan Zeffery batted 3-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Comets, Brady Pond and Lukas Nadell each added two hits. Nadell was also the winning pitcher, throwing six strikeouts in six innings pitched. HH will host the district tournament on Saturday, they face Homer in the 10AM semifinal.

 

DIVISION 3 at Lansing Catholic

Springport 2, Olivet 0: Andon Zeinert allowed just one hit and pitched a complete game for the Spartans, leading them to a gritty win in the pre-district matchup. Zeinert also batted one of the Spartans’ three hits with two RBIs.

 

DIVISION 3 at Lumen Christi

Leslie 3, Columbia Central 1: Two runs scored by the Blackhawks in the 5th inning would be the winning scores as they took down #2 ranked CC in the opening postseason game at LCHS. It was a pitchers duel, with Leslie’s Jackson Fossitt earning the win. The SEC commit threw 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in six innings. Leslie will face Grass Lake in the district semifinals on Saturday.

 

DIVISION 4 at East Jackson

Vandercook Lake 13, East Jackson 3: Justin Barnes batted 2-2 with an RBI to lead the Jayhawks in their opening round victory. Barnes was the winning pitcher, throwing 8 strikeouts and allowing just three hits in five innings. VCL advances to the district semifinal on Saturday.

MHSAA SOFTBALL DISTRICTS

DIVISION 2 at Parma Western

Western 3, Williamston 0: Amber Gregory’s dominant pitching performance led the Panthers to an opening round win at home. Gregory threw 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in a complete game, and also batted two hits with an RBI. Western will face Eaton Rapids in the district semifinal at home on Saturday.

 

DIVISION 3 at Olivet

Springport 10, Leslie 0: Ashlyn Underhill batted 3-4 with an RBI to lead the Spartans in a five-inning mercy rule. Devan Lowe added two hits. Morgan Shoemaker dominated in the circle, throwing 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits. Springport will face Hanover Horton in the district semifinal on Saturday.

 

DIVISION 3 at Onsted

Grass Lake 11, Onsted 0: Lily McVicker batted 3-3 with 2 RBIs to lead the Warriors, Addalynn Hensen also batted three hits. Makenzie Hilberer, Morgan Conrad, and Kennedy Collins each batted two hits. The win for GL sets up a massive rematch with conference rival and #2-ranked Columbia Central in the district semifinal on Saturday, a rematch from the Eagles taking the conference title last week.

MHSAA BOYS GOLF REGIONALS

Division 2 at Coldwater GC: Parma Western qualified for the D2 state finals after finishing 2nd place as a team with a total of 307, just two shots behind first place Vicksburg. Freshman Bentley Coon continues to stay hot, shooting a first place score of 68 with only one bogey and several birdies. Andrew Boldt placed 4th with a 74, and Leo Nguyen and Eli Bowman of Jackson each shot a 76.

 

TRACK & FIELD

Selby Track & Field Classic: On Tuesday, 19 area schools competed at Jackson High School for the annual James R. Selby Track & Field Classic. Full results can be found here on JTV.TV. A full broadcast of the event will air on JTV this weekend at 1/7pm on Saturday and Sunday plus a photo gallery is available.
