Cascades Conference Championship

Columbia Central 3, Grass Lake 0: The Warriors batted just two hits in game one, thanks to a dominant pitching performance from CC’s Conor Rentfrow. Rentfrow threw eight strikeouts in a complete game. Chase Dukate and Noah Dankert each batted two hits for the Golden Eagles.

 

(8 inn.) Grass Lake 3, Columbia Central 2: Thanks to a CC victory in game one, game two was a winner take all for the conference title as GL’s five-peat was on the line. Cam Prater batted two hits for the Warriors. Luke Guthrie batted one hit for GL, and that hit gave them another title. The Kellogg CC commit blasted a home run into left center field in the 8th inning to walk it off and win a 6th straight conference title for the Warriors. Grass Lake takes down their rival once again and continues its run as the king of the conference, they are now 23-8 overall.

 

Napoleon 7, Hanover Horton 5: Grant Straub and Logan Hankis each batted two hits for the Pirates, and Gage Breining drove in three runs. AJ Buckley was the winning pitcher.

 

Hanover Horton 12, Napoleon 8: Despite outhitting the Comets 13-7, HH took game two as they split the doubleheader. Lukas Nadell and Brady Pond each batted two hits for the Comets. Blake Griffis was the winning pitcher. Napoleon is now 18-11 and HH is now 16-17.

 

Addison 12, East Jackson 2: Andrew Huston, Logan Jewell, and Trent Bailey each batted two hits for Addison. Chris Holloway led EJ with two hits.

 

East Jackson 8, Addison 2: Landin Hendricks and Ayden Crendall each batted two hits to lead the Trojans as they split the doubleheader.

 

Homer 5, Michigan Center 4: Brock and Roman Butler each batted three hits for Homer in game one. Roman Butler’s walkoff RBI single in the 7th inning won the game for the Trojans. Miles Stewart and Hunter Thorpe each batted three hits for MC.

 

Michigan Center 5, Homer 1: Miles Stewart batted 3-4 to lead the Cardinals as they split the doubleheader. Layton Stanley was the winning pitcher. MC is now 14-15 overall.

SOFTBALL

 

Cascades Conference Championship

(8 inn.) Grass Lake 5, Columbia Central 4: Both games of the softball conference championship went to an extra inning in a battle with two top-10 ranked teams. Lily McVicker batted three hits with two RBIs for GL, and Kennedy Collins hit a homerun. Morgan Conrad was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game with 125 pitches.

 

(8 inn.) Columbia Central 6, Grass Lake 5: Just like baseball, game two became a winner take all for the conference title with GL looking to also make their own 6-peat. Grass Lake led 3-1 after the first inning, then a three-run inning by CC gave them a 4-3 lead after three. The game was tied in the top of the eighth when Bella Knapp grounded out, scoring one run for CC. Columbia would hang onto win and snag the conference title, ending the Warriors streak of five years. Hailey Wetherby batted 3-4 with an RBI, and was the winning pitcher with a whopping 142 pitches. CC is now 27-1 and Grass Lake is now 26-4.

 

Springport 3, Bath 1: Morgan Shoemaker delivered another dominating performance to lead the Spartans. Shoemaker batted 2-3 with 2 RBIs, and struck out 12 batters in the circle with a complete game. 

 

Springport 10, Bath 3: Morgan Shoemaker batted 3-3 with 5 RBIs to dominate at the plate and lead Springport to a non-league sweep. Devan Lowe also batted three hits, and Ashlyn Underhill earned the win. Springport ends its regular season at 26-6 overall.

 

Hanover Horton 11, Napoleon 3: Amanda Ley drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Comets in game one. Ava Smith also batted three hits, and Ley earned the pitching win.

 

Hanover Horton 13, Napoleon 8: Ava Smith batted 4-5 with an RBI to lead HH in game two as they swept the conference doubleheader. Tori King batted 3-4 with 3 RBIs. HH improves to 19-11 overall.

Division 2

Chelsea 2, Northwest 0

Mason 8, Jackson 0

 

Parma Western 5, BC Harper Creek 0: Sophomore star Lola Berdiner scored four of the five goals for the Panthers. Berdiner broke the school record for goals in a season with the opening round win. Western will face Mason in the district semifinals on Tuesday at Mason HS.

 

Division 3

Quincy 4, Napoleon 3 (SO)

 

Michigan Center 8, Hillsdale 0: Mayrese Vieau scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Cardinals in the opening round match. Carly Horstman and Emma Campbell each added two goals, and McKynley Gaddy added a goal with two assists.

 

Columbia Central 8, Springport 0: Mara Henry scored six goals to lead the Golden Eagles, including breaking the school record for goals in a season to cap off a dominant night. CC will face Michigan Center in the district semifinals on Tuesday at Eaton Rapids.
