(June 30, 2022 6:53 PM) The City of Jackson has released the weekly construction update on three projects:

West Avenue Construction Project

Over the past week, the lids of manholes and water valves were adjusted up to match the top of the new pavement. The contractor then did cleanup tasks and removed equipment for the project zone. At this point, all work for the contract to replace the water main and water services is complete.

Next week, work on the contract to replace the traffic signal and realign the intersection at West and Franklin will commence. The excavation subcontractor will arrive next week to do curb and pavement removals to make the intersection ready for the electricians. Removals are expected to be completed by the end of next week.

After removals are complete, the electricians will arrive to begin work on the new traffic signals. Their first task will be the installation of new concrete bases that will support the new signal poles. The concrete base work will take about a week to complete.

E. High Street Bridge Construction Update

The placement of concrete to make the abutments and piers ready for the new beams continued over the past week.

There will be no work tomorrow, Friday, July 1st, or Monday, July 4th, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Next week, work will focus on site cleanup and grading and making the site ready for the beam delivery trunks. The beams are scheduled to be delivered on July 11th and 12th. When the beams arrive, they will go directly from the trucks to their place on the bridge supports.

Greenwood Avenue Construction Update

Over the past week, all concrete work for sidewalk repairs and sidewalk ramp upgrades was completed on the east side of Greenwood. In addition, the bases for new traffic signal poles were installed at the intersection of Greenwood with Griswold and Fourth.

There will be no work on Greenwood tomorrow, Friday, July 1st or Monday, July 4th, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Next week, a mill is scheduled to arrive in the middle of the week to remove the surface of the pavement on the east side of Greenwood. The milling is scheduled to take a single day to complete. On Friday of next week or early in the week after, the paving subcontractor will arrive to pave a new surface course of hot mix asphalt over the milled area.
