(May 22, 2024 10:43 AM ET) Make a splash this summer by getting certified to be a lifeguard! The City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a class to get lifeguards certified ahead of the summer 2024 season at the Nixon Water Park.
The lifeguard certification class is open to those who want to work at Nixon or another facility. The three-session class is happening Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2 at the Jackson High School Aquatic Center, 544 Wildwood Ave.
- Friday, May 31, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, June 1, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday, June 2, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Class registration is available on cityofjackson.org and at the Parks and Recreation Department, 5th Floor of City Hall, 161 W. Michigan Ave. Participants must be 15 years old and over to be certified. Recreation Supervisor Alexa Markham is instructing the class, which costs $100 to register. The City of Jackson is currently hiring lifeguards for the Nixon Water Park 2024 season. The water park is open Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting Monday, June 17 and lasting through Saturday, Aug. 10. The City has open positions for Pool Supervisor at $24 hourly, Head Lifeguard at $19 hourly, and up to 20 Lifeguards. Lifeguards over 18 years old will earn $17 hourly. Those under 18 will get $15 hourly.
Interested applicants may submit an employment application through cityofjackson.org in the Personnel & Labor Relations section. An application packet is available on the website. Lifeguards must have the proper certifications to be eligible for hiring consideration, along with being 15 years old and over.
