(September 10, 2020 11:04 AM) The City of Jackson is preparing for a busy election season. Along with the increased demand for voting using absentee ballots, there are two ballot proposals on the November 3rd General Election ballot. These ballot proposals ask voters if the City Charter should be amended to change how City Council and Treasurer vacancies are filled and how nominating petitions are submitted for elected office.
The City has launched several initiatives to educate residents about the ballot proposals ahead of the November election.
- NEW WEBSITE: The City has created a new section of its website where residents can learn about these two ballot proposals. By visiting cityofjackson.org/ballotproposals, residents can get full breakdowns of the proposals and see how they appear on ballots.
- VIDEO: A two minute video has been produced to explain the ballot proposals and what they mean for the City. This video will be posted on the City website and social media platforms.
- CITY NEWSLETTER: The Fall 2020 edition of the City of Jackson Newsletter contains a two page article about the Nov. election with detailed information about the ballot proposals. The newsletter is mailed to every home and business in the city limits.
The City has also provided more information on its Election Division website, cityofjackson.org/elections, so residents have everything they need to know about voting in this election. A short video has been produced to guide residents through the process of voting using an absentee ballot. This video will be posted on the City website and social media platforms.
Public Information Officer Aaron Dimick says the City is anticipating a busy election season. “Along with these important ballot proposals, we also have a large increase in voters requesting absentee ballots,” Dimick said. “We plan on boosting resident communications through this election cycle to make sure our residents have accurate information about voting.”
Residents with questions about voting in the Nov. election should be directed to the City Clerk’s Office by calling 517-788-4025 or emailing clerksoffice@cityofjackson.org.
