(August 26, 2022 11:42 AM) The City of Jackson Department of Engineering released the weekly construction report.
West Avenue construction update:
Over the past week, work has focused on the restoration of the grass areas between the curbs and sidewalks.
The paving of the top course of new hot mix asphalt is scheduled for this Saturday, August 27.
Next week, the primary task will be to adjust the lids of manholes and water valves up to match the top of the new pavement. This will work take most of next week to complete. Once the lid adjustments are complete, the concrete collars around the lids will need a few days to cure and gain strength.
The following week, the week of September 5, the pavement marking subcontractor will arrive to paint stripes throughout the project zone and to place new arrow and “only” symbols at the intersection of West and Franklin.
Once the pavement markings are completed, the barricades and barrels will be removed and West Avenue and Franklin Street will be opened to traffic.
Greenwood Avenue construction update:
Over the past week, the last manhole and valve lids were raised up to match the top of the new pavement surface.
The pavement marking subcontractor is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 30, to paint the new stripes along the length of the project and to put down the arrow and “only” symbols at the major street intersections.
After the pavement markings are complete, the barricades and barrels will be removed and Greenwood will be opened to two-way traffic.
E. High Street bridge construction update:
For the past week, the contractor has been working to build the new concrete railings on each side of the bridge.
Currently, the contractor is cutting out the road on each end of the bridge for the new approaches. Once the road has been cut out, a new gravel base will be put down, graded and compacted to make it ready for paving with new hot mix asphalt. Asphalt paving is scheduled for early in September.
Tentatively, shoulder, guardrail and sign work is scheduled to be completed in mid-September. In late September, a concrete sealer treatment will be applied to the new bridge deck and railings. Once the sealer work has been completed at the end of September, the barricades and barrels will be removed and High Street will be opened to traffic.
