Conrad Strikes Out 11 Batters, Bats 2 Hits ; Warriors Advance to D3 Softball State Championship Game

(6-13-2025, 6:45PM): For the first time in program history, Grass Lake softball appeared in the ‘Final Four’ at Secchia Stadium at Michigan State University on Friday facing Algonac in Division 3.

The scoring started early for the Algonac Muskrats, an RBI double from Ava Murray gave them a 1-0 lead in the first inning. GL pitcher Mo Conrad quickly shut the rest of the inning down, leaving Muskrat runners stranded.

The Warriors took their first lead in the 3rd inning as Nadene Hubbard knocked in a 2-RBI double for a 2-1 GL lead. Bree Salts extended the lead in the 4th inning, knocking in an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game.

The Warriors would later extend the lead in the 6th inning, Leilah Smith brought Emily Brown home to make it a 4-1 lead off an RBI-single.

Mo Conrad dominated in the circle for Grass Lake, retiring 9 of 11 batters from the third to sixth inning along with getting on base three times on offense.

Algonac’s 7th inning rally fell short, as Grass Lake held on to win 4-2 at Secchia Stadium at MSU on Friday. Conrad struck out 11 batters in the circle and batted 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors, Emily Brown added three hits and Nadene Hubbard added two for GL. Algonac could only muster three hits at the plate and drew just two walks.

“We’ve had a lot of great teams that set us up to get here now,” said Grass Lake coach Roger Cook. “One pitch at a time, one out at a time, and don’t quit”.

“Just trying to keep them off balance and change my pitches today was key,” said GL pitcher Mo Conrad. “This run has been exciting and I feel so blessed to be able to still be playing here”.

Grass Lake will face the Clare/Ravenna winner on Saturday in the MHSAA Division 3 Softball Championship, 5:30pm at Secchia Stadium at Michigan State University.
