(November 11, 2021 8:43 AM) Military Times this month ranked Consumers Energy as the #1 employer in Michigan for veterans. In the 2021 Best For Vets: Employers list, Consumers Energy also ranked 20th nationally.
“Military Times continues to set the standard for employer rankings for transitioning service members and veterans. Although often imitated, there is no other list that comes close to Best for Vets: Employers,” says Mort Greenberg, SVP of media solutions at Military Times. “We stand by the rigor and soundness of this survey, which spotlights companies’ employment programs that help transitioning service members excel in their post-military careers.”
The survey of employers conducted by Military Times captured the areas of greatest importance to transitioning service members, veterans, and their families when looking for an employer. Recruitment and employment practices, as well as retention and support programs, were given the most weight and importance in scoring and final rankings.
In a statement, Consumers Energy said it is committed to serving military veterans through programs like the Electric Lines Boot Camp, a partnership between Consumers Energy, the Michigan State Utility Workers Council, Power for America, and the Electric Joint Apprentice Committee to train and hire veterans as electric lineman apprentices.
“We want our veterans to know that their service to our country has not gone unnoticed, that they have transferrable skills and experience to enable them to be successful,” said Amber Fogarty, manager of Strategic Pipeline Talent Programs at Consumers Energy. “We are very excited to see the bright future these veterans will have within our company.”
Consumers Energy announced this morning that recruitment is underway for the 2022 Electric Lines Boot Camp. Apply online at www.electriclinesbootcamp.com.
