(August 30, 2022 8:43 PM) Consumers Energy announced tonight the company will provide free ice and water to Jackson-area residents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Consumers Energy intends to provide some help as crews continue restoring power to the community following storms with 70 mph winds that swept through the region on Monday.
The water and ice will be distributed at Keeley Park, 128 West Ganson Street (Jackson County Fairgrounds) in downtown Jackson between 11 AM and 1 PM on Wednesday, August 31.
As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, Consumers Energy has restored power to more than half of 175,000 customers affected by this week’s storm. About 17,000 customers in Jackson County are without power.
Consumers Energy said power should be restored to a majority of those customers by the end of the day Wednesday. Severe damage could result in lengthier repairs for some residents that could continue Thursday.
Consumers Energy reminds the public to be careful around downed power lines, and to stay at least 25 feet away. Do not touch the line or anything the line is touching. Report it immediately by calling 9-1-1 and then Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
