(Monday December 19th, 10:00PM) What seemed to be a tight back-and-forth battle with Grass Lake in a momentum shift, turned into a rollover loss on Monday night.

Grass Lake came in 3-2, looking to get a nice non-conference home win heading into the holiday break. But the Warriors’ struggles started early.

The first five minutes of the game were fast-paced and physical but Grass Lake struggled. The Warriors missed 4 three-pointers and had 6 turnovers in the first quarter. Dexter took advantage of Warrior mistakes by taking an early 15-8 lead including 4 three-pointers. Dexter led 15-8 after Quarter 1.

The first part of the second quarter was the same for GL, still making mental errors and continuing to miss open shots.

Then, Grass Lake had a momentum shift in the late part of the second quarter. The Warriors, led by Sophomore Kate Starkey, got some defensive steals and knocked down a couple threes. Just like that, Grass Lake tied things up at 24-24 headed into the locker room.

Grass Lake continued to keep this momentum going for about the first 3 minutes of the third quarter. Unfortunately, they fell back down again and couldn’t climb back into the game. More turnovers and missed shots allowed Dexter to outscore the Warriors 20-5 in the 3rd quarter. Dexter led 44-29 headed into the 4th.

Dexter continued to dominate the 4th quarter and put the game out of reach. Lots of miscommunication and more missed shots (that were needed to stay alive) kept Grass Lake from any chance at getting back into it.

Dexter, now 5-2 overall out of the SEC Red, got the win Monday night at Grass Lake, 57-39.

The star of the game for the Dreadnaughts was Chloe Perry, who scored 26 points for Dexter. Alana Blumberg added 17 and Kendall Cabana contributed 8 points for Dexter. Grass Lake was led by Kate Starkey with 18 points. Grass Lake falls to 3-3 and will play at Michigan Center on Wednesday (12/21) before the holiday break.
