(1-10-2026, 7:00PM): The Lumen Christi Titans’ explosive first half helps secure a home win against Division 1 Detroit Cass Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Titans opened the game on an 8-0 run from Lucy Wrozek, Erin O’Dowd, and Kenna Hunt. Freshman Tristin Johnson got the ball atop the key and sank a three ball followed by a Ruby Boyce lay-up on a Hunt assist for another scoring run of 7-0 to end the quarter with a 19-7 lead.
Wrozek hit the first field goal in the 2nd quarter, sinking an elbow three to extend the Titan lead. Shortly after, Cass tech is called for back to back technical fouls that Hunt cashed on all 4 free throws. That was the team’s second and third techs of the game.
Following that bizarre sequence, the two teams began to trade baskets. Cass Tech’s Natasha Shells assisted Mackey to get it all started. Harris scored 6 in the final stretch of the quarter while Hunt matches that with 6 of her own for LC. The score at halftime was 38 to 22, Lumen Christi on top. Kenna Hunt had almost all of her 18 of her points in the first half.
The Technicians won the third quarter 9 to 6. Shell had 5 of the 9, opening the 2nd half with a lay in, and later hitting a trey from straight on. Wrozek ended the quarter getting a strong offensive rebound and got the putback to go; Titans up 44-31 going into the 4th.
The Titan lead was cut to 9 midway through the final period after Mackey connected from distance, Shells converted a fast break, and assisted Mackey for a bunny. Lumen Christi is able to slowly grow the lead to 12 via Paige Lefere off a Hunt assist, Wrozek scoring on a fast break, and free throws. With time dwindling away, the Titans were able to effectively drain the clock in order to secure the 53-44 victory at home on Saturday over Cass Tech.
Kenna Hunt finished with 18 points to lead LCCHS, Lucy Wrozek added 13 points, and Tristin Johnson scored 9 points. The win on Saturday is now Lumen Christi’s second win this season over a Division 1 school, beating Detroit Edison at the buzzer 50-49 just over a week ago. LC is now 7-2 overall and travels to Toledo Notre Dame on Tuesday 1/13.
