April 6

The Michigan Theatre and Kiwanis present Spring Break Movies all this week.   Featured film is “Ferdinand”.  After Ferdinand, a bull with a big heart, is mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure Show times are 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. Doors open a half hour before film. Admission is 1 Dollar.

Spring Break at the Planetarium.  Shows at 11 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM.  Admission is $5.  Join us on our journey through the many wonders of the springtime night sky.  We’ll check out a seasonal offering of planets, star clusters, and galaxies. This will be followed by a showing of “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure”, a journey from Sesame Street to the Moon and an exploration of the night sky from the other side of the world! Visitors will get to enjoy a fresh bag of popcorn from our popcorn wagon, “Popcorn Charlie”. Open to all ages, but recommended for elementary-aged students.  Seating is limited, each showing is limited to 60 guests.  Hurst Planetarium, Ella Sharp Museum.

The Bohm Theatre in Albion presents Spring Break Movies.  Today at 11 AM:  “Jumanji”.  Admission $1.

The Tompkins Center Historical Society’s April dinner will be held this evening at 5 PM to 6:30 PM at the Tompkins Center’s Township Town Hall at 9999 Tompkins Rd., Rives Junction, about half a mile north of Tompkins Center off of M-50.  Between Jackson and Eaton Rapids.  On the menu for April is Ham & Escalloped Potato, salad bar and delicious desserts. Serving time is from 5 to 6:30 pm. in Tompkins Center’s Township Town Hall.  Enjoy a beautiful Early Spring drive in northwest Jackson County and join us. Take out orders call (517-569-2463) night of the dinner.  Donations: Adults $9.00, Children 12 & under $5.00.   Dinner gift certificates available also.

Red Cross Blood Drive, 10 AM to 5:45 PM at Henry Ford Allegiance Health Anderson Building, 205 North East Avenue, Jackson.  Winter weather in parts of the country caused the cancellation of more than 270 blood drives, resulting in an increased need.  www.redcrossblood.org.

The Michigan Theatre presents “Lady Bird”.  A teenager (Saoirse Ronan) navigates a loving but turbulent relationship with her strong-willed mother (Laurie Metcalf) over the course of an eventful and poignant senior year of high school. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. Film Starts at 7:00 Admission is 5 Dollars.

The Jackson Coffee Company presents Rick Straub.  Rick specializes in acoustic/vocal covers of singer-songwriters from the 1950s to present day. This includes solo and full band arrangements of material from John Mayer, the Beatles, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, and many others.  Free!  7 PM to 10 PM, Jackson Coffee Company, corner of Mechanic and Cortland, Downtown Jackson.

April 7

“Me, the Other”, a documentary film about diversity will be shown at the Michigan Theatre today at 3 PM, doors open at 2:30 PM.  Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with cast and producers of the film.  Tickets are $5. 

Volunteer Orientation at the Michigan Theatre.   There is a volunteer orientation meeting this Saturday, April 7, at 10:00 am, at The Michigan Theatre of Jackson. The meeting will last one hour and include a brief in-service on using Sign Up Genius, general guidelines for volunteers, and a cursory look at the Summer of 2018.

Pints and Pistons at Grand River Brewery.  Kick off riding season at GRB at the annual Pints & Pistons with an exhibit of rare and vintage motorcycles! No admission fee!   Located in the event room.  Saturday hours are 10 AM to 11 PM.  Sunday hours are 10 AM to 8 PM.   

The Michigan Hunting & Fishing Collectors Club Spring Show at the Eagles Hall,  301 Detroit Street, Jackson.    The show hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Admission is $5 (under 16 admitted free) and parking is free.  There will be approximately 100 tables of Michigan sporting collectibles including: old hunting and fishing licenses, successful hunter patches, vintage decoys, vintage game calls, old fishing lures and tackle, traps, shell boxes and ammo crates, DNR items, advertising items, tip-up town items, Bear Archery items, hunting & fishing stamps, and much more. The general public is welcome to browse, shop, and bring any items you may want to sell or trade, but no guns please.  More info, visit www.mhfcc.net.

Remember Me.  This is a unique candle light service!  Please come join us as we remember Sarah Claspille, one year ago she changed our life to save lives and others lost in 2017.  Wear the color shirt that represents your loss and a candle or glow stick to lit in Remembrance of your love one.  The different color shirts are important. Each color identifies your loss and will make it easy to identify others in our community that you can relate to and hopefully form a relationship with.  Our goal is to let not just those who suffer from suicidal thoughts know they are NOT alone but for you to know that your NOT Alone either. 8 PM to 9:30 PM, Horace Blackman Park.
