Western High School  presents “Radium Girls” at the Western Community Arts Center.  Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 3 PM.  26 actors and 30 techies have been working hard to present a great story for their school, community, friends and family.  The play is an historical fiction based on the true story of 13-28 year old women who worked in radium factories of the 20’s.  This is a drama, maybe not so young kid-friendly.  Tickets available at the door.  Adults $8, Students and Seniors $5. 

Center Stage Jackson presents “My Fair Lady”.  November 3-5 and 10-12, 2017.  Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3pm.  Jackson College’s Potter Center, Baughman Theatre.  Directed by Steven Owsley.  Acclaimed Professor and confirmed bachelor Henry Higgins makes a wager with his linguistic colleague Colonel Pickering that in six months he can pass off “gutter snipe” Eliza Doolittle as a duchess at an embassy ball. Through arduous training, day and night, Eliza learns how to speak English “properly,” and transforms into a lady respected and adored by all classes. However, she finds herself in a difficult position, now too refined to go back to her old life and not with any means or desire to live life as a lady of leisure – especially by herself.  Tickets can be purchased at a discount rate online at www.CenterStageJackson.org or by calling (517) 539-4118. Tickets can also be purchased at the door with cash, credit, or debit one hour before the performance start time.  Students (with student ID): $16 in advance, $18 at the door.  Adults: $18 in advance, $20 at the door. The Jackson District Library offers Yoga at the Meijer Branch every Friday at 8:30 AM with Jeanette Lamphere. Suggested donation of $3. Intended for adults.

Yoga at the Spring Arbor Branch of the Jackson District Library today and every Friday at 9 AM with Amy Reamer.  Suggested donation of $5.

The Eastern Branch of the Jackson District Library has Yoga with Elizabeth Hall at 9 AM.  Class suggested for adults and seniors.  Suggested donation is $2.

State Representative Julie Alexander will be holding office hours at the Jackson County Tower Building, 120 West Michigan Avenue.  4 PM to 5 PM.  All are welcome to meet with Representative Alexander, who serves the 64th State House District.

The Power of the Purse Masquerade Ball, Commonwealth Commerce Center, City View Room.  Join us for the 8th Annual Power of the Purse “Masquerade Ball”!! This is a fun Friday night of silent and live auctions, raffles and heavy appetizers. All proceeds will be going to the Student Advocacy Center, an organization that works to assist our most vulnerable students stay in school, realize their rights to a quality public education, and experience success.  5:30 PM to 9 PM.  Tickets and information here.

Saturday November 4

The Michigan Center Education Foundation presents the 6th Annual Craft Show.  Admission is a canned food item or donation.  10 AM to 4 PM at Michigan Center Jr/Sr High School, 400 State Street, Michigan Center.  Proceeds benefit programs and scholarships of the Michigan Center Education Foundation.

Firehouse Food Drive, hosted by Liberty Township Firefighters.  The Liberty Township Fire Department will be open to receive donations of non-perishable food items on Saturday, November 4th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donations will go to the Brooklyn Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off at the Liberty Township Hall Mondays and Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or at Station 1 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The most needed food items are soup, crackers, and cereal. Toilet paper and bar soap are other high demand items.

Toy Collectible Show at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.  Inside the Heated Fair Events Center and the Gumper Exhibition Hall there will be over 160 tables of collectible toys including:  Vintage toys, Comics, Sports Cards, Trains, Models, Slot Cars, Dolls, Star Wars, Promos, Action Figures, Tractors, Hot Wheels, NASCAR, Die Cast Semis and more!   Admission: $3.00 per person, kids under 10 free.  9 AM to 3 PM.

Holiday Wine & Wool Festival at Sandhill Crane Vineyards.  Wine & Wool Festival to our annual line-up!  The festival will feature a mix of finished goods for gifts, and supplies for knitters, crocheters, and spinners.   Admission is free. Wine tasting is $6 for 8 tastes. The cafe is open throughout the event sandwiches, salads, soups, desserts, and coffee drinks. Music on Main Street, Concord Branch, Jackson District Library.  Join us every Saturday in November from 12-2 p.m. for an impromptu music jam! The Concord Branch Opera House will be open to the public. Bring your instrument (piano provided) and practice some music.  Downtown Concord.

Guest Speaker Saturdays at the Michigan Military Heritage Museum, Grass Lake.  1st Session starts at 12:00 PM  Veteran Ron Springer will discuss “A year in the life of a Vietnam Infantryman” using his photos and experience as a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division.  2nd Session starts at 2:00 PM.  Author John Cohassey presents “Hemingway Goes To War”. John is an accomplished author and President of the Ernest Hemingway Association. Come hear about Hemingway’s time in WWI and at Walloon Lake in Michigan. Michigan Military Heritage Museum, 153 N Union Street, Grass Lake.

Save Our Youth Community Empowerment March II.  Kickoff at Lane Memorial C.M.E. Church at noon – Speakers include Barbra Shelton, Ron Brooks, Fred Goff, Hakim Crampton, Julie Alexander, and Keynote speaker Mayor Bill Jors.  Emcee Daniel Mahoney. Participants will march with us to downtown CP Federal City Square where the community will share resources. This event is an action plan to address the increased violence in our community hosted by Save Our Youth. Event Organizer is Thomas Burke. 

Funk & Soul Night with The Mainstays.  Bring your dancing shoes to The Wax as The Mainstays will have you tapping your feet and wanting to shake what your mama gave you to their infectious beat!  The Jackson Symphony Orchestra “Music On Tap” Series, Weatherwax Hall, Downtown Jackson.  Doors open at 7:30 PM, Concert starts at 8 PM.  Tickets at the door:  $20.  Refreshments, including a cash bar, will be available.

Freeway Church Iron Men’s Ministry will be hosting an ALL MEN’S dinner and fundraiser on November, 4th at 5pm.  Freeway Church, 28900 B Drive North, Albion.  There will be a free dinner provided to all men who attend and donations will be collected at the event. Donations will be shared between Summit Pointe, a mental health facility assisting the homeless, veterans and others as well as the Kingdom Builder’s Life Assistance fund aimed at helping the needy in the Albion community. All men are invited and encouraged to bring friends, fathers, brothers, uncles and others along with them.
