Summit to Reduce Violence. Be part of the solution when the Jackson community comes together for a Summit to Reduce Violence on Friday, April 21 at the George E. Potter Center, Jackson College. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and the event runs from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Join in a solutions-focused, multidisciplinary gathering of professionals and community members working together to tackle the issues of violence in Jackson, with Michigan State University Professor Chris Melde the featured speaker. Melde is the Director of the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. For the past 15 years, Melde has worked with schools and prevention program providers in the areas of training, implementation fidelity, and curriculum review. He has worked on the national process and outcome evaluation of the National Crime Prevention Council’s Teens, Crime, and the Community: Community Works program, served on the curriculum review and redevelopment committee for the Community Works program, the national process and outcome evaluation of the Gang Resistance Education and Training program, as well as the ongoing process and outcome randomized controlled trial of an innovative whole-school change program throughout Genesee County, Michigan. This 2nd annual summit will bring community voices together with law enforcement, members of the judicial system, researchers and advocates to address violence and its impact on Jackson.
