MIS Race Weekend:  ARCA Menards Series Race.  Michigan International Speedway hosts the ARCA MENARDS SERIES RACE FRI, AUG 16, 2024 6:00 PM The HENRY FORD HEALTH 200 will kick off the triple header weekend at Michigan International Speedway!  Details and tickets here.

Grand River Farmers Market.  9 AM to 2 PM.  You’re invited to join us riverside for a healthy dose of good food, good music, and good community! Senator Shink’s Senior Summit.  Sen. Sue Shink is inviting local seniors to join her at the Crouch Senior Center in Jackson, Michigan for her annual Senior Summit. Red Cross Blood Drive for Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Give blood, save lives, and support suicide prevention! Team Hope Walk Central Michigan.  Registration Opens – 10:00am.  Walk Begins – 11:00am.  Michigan Theatre, 124 North Mechanic Street, Downtown Jackson.  Team Hope Walks aim to raise money in the local community to support the mission and services of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. Your $30 walk registration will get you a t-shirt, a meal, and a map of the mural routes. We’ll have guest speakers and there will be some pretty fantastic item baskets up for raffle. We will accept cash or card. Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure.  The Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by Huntington’s disease. Opioid Community Conversations. 12 PM to 1:30 PM.  Drug Free Jackson, Home of New Vision, and the Jackson County Health Department are hosting, “Opioid Community Conversations” on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Jackson District Library – Brooklyn Branch (207 N Main St, Brooklyn, MI 49230). This community event aims to tackle the pressing issue of opioid overdoses in our community.  The event will feature a lineup of distinguished local leaders as speakers.  Free event, all are welcome to attend.

MIS Race Weekend:  NASCAR Cup Series Race Firekeepers Casino 400.  The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Michigan International Speedway in 2024 as the finale to a tripleheader weekend! Drivers put it all on the line in the Manufacturers’ Backyard for a chance to take home the Michigan Heritage Trophy. With great camping options, special kids’ pricing, concerts, vendors, and more, MIS is the perfect place to end your summer vacation with family and friends.  Details and tickets here.

Out Walk Hunger.  10 AM – 11 AM.  Come walk any distance (choose how far you walk) and support feeding those who are food insecure. All proceeds benefit Immanuel Lutheran food pantry.  1401 S. Brown Street, Jackson.

Jackson Pride Fest.  12 PM to 5 PM.  Families of all ages and configurations are welcome. Come as you are!  Allies welcome! Mix, mingle, and make new friends! Jackson Pride Fest kicks off with a Walk of Pride starting at Consumers Energy and finishing with a party at Horace Blackman Park with the Kalamazoo Drag Queens, live music all day, All Ages Bounce House, food trucks, vendor booths and community resources. Performance by Haarmonic (2 PM), Our Two Cents (3 PM), Dance Party with DJ Auld and the Kittens (4:30 PM) and headliner J. Santino (5 PM).  Thanks to our sponsors, this event remains free of charge!
