MLK Diversity Celebration.  7:30-9 am.  American 1 Event Center, 128 W Ganson St, Jackson.  The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce invites you to the annual MLK Diversity Breakfast, sponsored by AARP Michigan. Mission of the MLK Diversity Breakfast: To promote community collaboration to reflect Dr. King’s dream and to motivate youth for service and excellence. Join us to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The event will include breakfast. This year’s event also includes a video presentation showcasing children’s artwork that represents the work of Martin Luther King Jr., a project created by Jackson School of the Arts. This year’s community celebration features Aidan Sova, who serves on the Growing Michigan Together Council for the State of Michigan as well as the Board of Trustees for Ann Arbor District Library, and is a proud Jackson native. Join us for a workshop at the Carnegie Library for one-on-one support in your job hunt. Root Station at Ironbark. 7 PM to 9 PM.  Introducing Root Station, an exciting new musical project! Featuring four individuals who enjoy the music of the ’60s & ’70s, we strive to appeal to a wide range of tastes.  We hope that you can come out and give us a listen!  Ironbark Brewing Company, 2610 Kibby Road, Jackson.

Hot Southern Mess at 308 Brass Rail.  8 PM to Midnight. 308 Brass Rail, 308 W Prospect St, Jackson.  Hot Southern Mess is a four piece band that travels around to deliver a night Fun, and interaction with music and all of you! Country music with a taste of this and that! A mix of music with Piano, Electric guitar, and acoustic guitar! Drummer- Brian Cook, Bassist- Ed Hamblin, Lead guitarist- Bill Foster / also covering backups.

Community Drum Circle.  6-8 pm.  The Old Church Venue, 101 Main Street, Horton.  Rev. Carol Gallentine is a walking library for many ceremonial songs. She has lead “INIPI” (Sweat Lodge) ceremonies for the past 25 years, is a Sacred Pipe holder, Spiritual Counselor, Spiritualist Minister and Advanced CranioSacral Therapist.  Bring your drums, rattles, your voice and curiosity, Carol will have extra drums and rattles available. Looking forward to sharing the sacredness of drumming with you.  Ticket price: $10 at the door.  Please bring a snack or dish to share.

Miss Jackson Crossroads and Teen Competition.  3 pm.  Western Community Arts Center, 1400 S. Dearing Rd., Parma.  See who will earn educational scholarships and the honor of serving her community as Miss Jackson Crossroads and Miss Jackson Crossroad’s Outstanding Teen! $20, ($15 for students) at the door.  Cash only, atm available.

Ripple Effect:  Mass Incarceration in the Modern Age.   An art show featuring the works of artists who are currently or formerly incarcerated, as well as those who have been personally affected by the criminal justice system. Ripple Affect aims to raise awareness and spark dialogue about the social, political, and economic issues that fuel mass incarceration, such as racism, poverty, violence, and addiction. By showcasing the voices and visions of those who are often silenced and marginalized, this art show challenges the stereotypes and stigmas that surround incarceration and criminal records, and invites the viewers to rethink their assumptions and attitudes about justice, punishment, and redemption.  Art 634 , 634 N. Mechanic Street, Jackson.  The show will open on Saturday, January 13th at 6:00pm with light refreshments and live music provided by Banjo Mike. The show opening is free and open to the public until 9:00pm. Ripple Affect will then be on display Wednesday through Saturday from 11a – 7p and Sundays 11a – 3p through February 4th, 2024.

POSTPONED TO JANUARY 21 Art Opening Featuring Zach Snyder.  1-4 pm.  Sandhill Crane Vineyards, 4724 Walz Rd, Jackson.  Start 2024 off with a creative heart inspired by two incredibly talented artists! We’re welcoming artwork by Zach Snyder to the winery during the months of January & February while hearing Larry Sumner play solo from 1:30pm-3:30pm, both first timers at Sandhill! NAACP Morning of Remembrance for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  10 AM to 12 PM.  Jackson County Branch NAACP Presents a Morning of Remembrance for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our Keynote Speaker will be Pastor Michael Young The theme will be ” I Am Not Done Dreaming Yet”.  This is a free “Open to the Public Event”.  Donations will be taken towards the Harold White, Sr. Scholarship Fund which benefits College Students of Color with financial assistance.  Pastor James Hines, Pastor of Lily Missionary Baptist Church – Host and Location. SOLD OUT Jackson College presents 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Luncheon.  Jackson College welcomes Jackson native Latricia Trice to deliver the keynote address, “We Shall Overcome,” at the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. This year’s event will be a luncheon on MLK Day, Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. It will be held in the Robert Snyder Dining Commons, Potter Center, with doors opening at 11 a.m. and event starting at 11:30 a.m.  Also at this event, the 2024 King Medal of Service Award will be presented to Jeremy Patterson, assistant superintendent, secondary curriculum for Jackson Public Schools.  SOLD OUT.

Dungytreei Heritage Foundation Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration.  3 PM.  Dungyrtreei Heritage Foundation hosts a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 3 pm at MLK Center, 1107 Adrian Street, Jackson.  Musical performances by Queen Neph Lewis and Denny Parker.  Speakers include Willie Brown, Kelli Higgins, Larry Green, Maurice Imhoff, Farina Brooks and Golden Gibson.  Free entry, free community dinner.  All are welcome!  Call (517) 240-3511 for more information.
