Oscar Nominated Short Films:  Animated and Live Action.  There will be a very brief intermission between Oscar Shorts categories.  “Animation” will begin at 6:00 pm (80 minutes), “Live Action will begin at 7:30 pm and end at 9:30 pm.  Tickets are $10 and will be valid for the entire weekend.  The $10 price includes all service charges.  Film goers will be able to leave and return with the purchase of one $10 ticket.

Winter Winemaker’s Dinner.  Join us on Friday, January 31st for a very special dinner! Sandhill Crane Vineyards is proud to bring back our winemakers dinner!  Seating begins at 6PM with dinner service following at 6:30PM. Enjoy a delectable 5 course meal.  Each course thought through and carefully paired with our very own wines- all aged and bottled right here on site. Retro Weekend at Bone Island Grill.  It’s the weekend you’ve all been waiting for, Retro Weekend!! We of course will be featuring our Blast From the Past Menu- our tribute to restaurants of Jackson’s past! We will have a DJ spinning retro hits Saturday night with great retro drink specials! Late Night at Grand River Brewery.  The stage is set and the sound system is on it’s way!  Starting this weekend, our bar will be open until 1 AM every Friday & Saturday with live music from 10 PM until midnight. Kick it off right with upbeat indie rock from Heavy Locals both nights this weekend!

Marshall Ice Wine Beer and Blues.  A Carnival on Ice – Partake in some wine & beer tasting while admiring the “cool” carnival-inspired art of ice sculptors as you walk through downtown  Friday Events in Downtown Marshall.  10 AM – Close: Shopping Specials, 5 PM – 8 PM: Carnival-Themed Ice Carvings, 6 PM – 10 PM: Wine & Beer Tastings.  Details here.  Purchase Tickets at Locations Throughout Downtown During Event.  $25 for 10 tastings only.  $40 for 10 tastings plus a collector goblet.

Collectible Toy Show.  The Jackson show started in 2004 and has grown from 18 tables to over 240 tables of toy collectibles. It’s a one day show where you’ll find everything from NASCAR, Tractors, Dolls, Promos, Hot Wheels, Slot Cars, Model Cars, Star Wars, Action Figures, Movie Posters, Comics, Sport Cards, Matchbox, Trains, Die Cast Trucks, Cartoon Characters, Battery Operated & Wind-Ups, Antique Toys and more!  9 AM to 3 PM, Original American 1 Events Center, Keeley Park (Jackson County Fairgrounds.

43rd Annual Groundhog Gallop.  Step by Step is proud to host the 43rd Annual Groundhog Gallop. This 5K run/walk will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 12 Noon.  Middle School at Parkside. Entry fee is $25.  Race is professionally timed using disposable bib chips.  Long-sleeve t-shirt guaranteed for all registered participants.  Packet Pick Up/Late Registration:  January 31st, One Jackson Square building, 2nd Floor, 12-4pm.  February 1, Cafeteria, Middle School at Parkside, 10:30am.  Registration details here.

Oscar Nominated Short Films.  Since 2017, the The Michigan Theatre of Jackson has provided the pleasure of discovery and astonishment at the ways in which cinema can tell stories with fresh vision and unbridled imagination. As in previous years, the 2020 Oscar® Shorts program will combine all the nominees in the short animation and live-action categories – ten shorts in all – into one spectacular showcase, with an intermission between the two categories.On Saturday, February 1, “Animation” will begin at 12:00 pm, “Documentary” at 1:45 pm, and “Live Action” at 4:30 pm.  Tickets are $10 and will be valid for the entire weekend.  The $10 price includes all service charges.  Film goers will be able to leave and return with the purchase of one $10 ticket.

Winter Stonefly Hunt.  The Winter Stonefly Hunt will be on Saturday, February 1st. Volunteers will help us look for stoneflies in and around river communities. You can step into a pair of waders and search in the water, or help sort samples on the firm and dry stream/river bank (or both). No experience is necessary, as we will provide some quick training and equipment.   We will meet at the Jackson County Conservation District office (211 W Ganson St in Room 200, Jackson, MI 49201) at 1pm. Family Fun Day.  Come join us for our annual Family Fun Day, hosted by the PSA! There will be games, food, raffles, and much more to celebrate the end of Catholic Schools Week.  Family Fun Day will take place in Star Hall (in the basement of the Church) from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, February 1st.  Pre-sale tickets are available in the office now. Small raffle tickets are 6 for $1, and large raffle tickets are 6 for $5. Buy early and save!  1 PM to 3 PM, St. Mary School, Downtown Jackson.

February 2

Super Bowl Customer Appreciation Party.  Michigan Theatre, 5:30 PM to 10 PM.  Oh man. It’s on again for 2020. It’s our annual Super Bowl Party sponsored by CCC Catering/Davan’s Fine Catering. If you came the last two years, you know what a great day it will be. Every visitor will get a plate of food (just one please…haaaa) and enter a drawing for prizes related to the game. The doors open at 5:30 pm with a 6:30 pm kick off.
