The 36th Anniversary of the Hot Air Jubilee begins today thru Sunday.  Hot air balloons will launch (weather permitting) from Ella Sharp Park on Friday Evening, Saturday morning, Saturday evening, and Sunday morning.  Throughout the event, come out the park and enjoy carnival rides, live entertainment, food vendors, Ella Sharp Museum, craft booths, the Kids Kingdom, a pilot meet and greet, and a car show. The Grand River Farmers Market is open today from 9 am until 2 pm at the corner of Louis Glick & Mechanic Street in Downtown Jackson.  The market features Michigan-grown produce; including fresh vegetables, fruits, organic goods, vegan cookies, muffins, granola, honey, jams, breads, pastas, jewelry, dog treats, salsas, fruit pies, sweet corn, tomatoes, hanging flower baskets, blueberries, maple syrup, chard, broccoli, peas, mums, and much more!

The Jackson YMCA presents Outdoor Summer Fun, free events for members and the community.  Yoga at the Farmer’s Market.  9 AM to 10 AM.  Meet at Grand River Farmer’s Market.

The Faster Horses Festival begins today thru Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.  The festival is a prime summer event featuring two stages, nine campgrounds, late night jam sessions, food trucks, water slides, and more to highlight the unique summer lifestyle experience in the area. Don’t miss the ultimate #PartyoftheSummer!  This year’s lineup includes Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line, Brooks & Dunn, Ashley McBryde, and more!  Faster Horses is located at Michigan International Speedway. The festival site is located in an area behind the backstretch of the track and set among the rolling Irish Hills of Brooklyn.  Use this link to order your festival passes, or check out the Faster Horses Festival Official page here.

Jammin’ in Jackson and Family Film Night at CP Federal City Square in Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.  Jammin’ in Jackson is featuring the music of Airtight from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The movie “Despicable Me” will begin at dark. The event is FREE and open to the public.   Bring a lawn chair or a blanket!  Concessions will be available.  Thank you to Experience Jackson, Alro Steel Corporation, Consumers Energy, Tripp’s Auto Shop, Jackson Anchor Initiative, CP Federal Credit Union, County National Bank, Downtown Jackson, and Michigan Theatre of Jackson for making this events possible. 

The Michigan Shakespeare Festival continues this evening with “Measure for Measure”.  7:30 PM, Baughman Theatre, Potter Center on Jackson College Central Campus.  Tickets and more information here.

Laser Shows at Hurst Planetarium.  Join us at the Hurst Planetarium for Laser Shows from Thursday 19-Sunday, July 22. Shows feature music from bands such as “The Beatles,” Pink Floyd,” and “Led Zeppelin.” Shows are $5 per person and are about 20 minutes long.  Tonight:  6 p.m.– “Laser Beatles”
6:30 p.m.– “Laser Zeppelin”. 

The Jackson Coffee Company presents live entertainment tonight with the Devil Elvis Show.  Formed in early 2007, The Devil Elvis Show is a Rock & Roll band from the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area that specializes in performing Elvis tunes. Combining 50’s Rock & Roll with elements of rockabilly, country, soul, and R & B. Devil Elvis is more than a tribute to Elvis, it is a tribute to Rock & Roll itself. The band appeals to anyone that enjoys a rockin’ good time.  7 PM to 10 PM, Jackson Coffee Company, Downtown Jackson.

Late Night Friday at Sandhill Crane Vineyards, open until 10pm.  Come sit on the deck, enjoy a glass of wine, wine taste & grab some snacks!  Two-Faced Wilson will play 6:30-9:30 on the deck-weather permitting (will move to the banquet room if weather is unfavorable).  We will feature two Sangria specials every weekend, Friday-Sunday.  Sandhill Crane Vineyards, 4724 Walz Road, Jackson.

Arts in the Park.  Free concerts on Friday evenings all summer long in Downtown Brooklyn, Swains Memorial Park.  Tonight:  Elrod & Morin family and friends.  7 PM  Bring a lawn chair or blanket!

The Chelsea Area Players presents its summer musical: Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka! Performance dates are at Washington St. Education Center – George Prinzing Auditorium, 500 Washington St., Chelsea, MI 48118 Friday, July 20 (8 pm), Saturday, July 21 (8 pm). Cruising at the Center.  A summer day in Leoni Township Park, 5th Street, Michigan Center.  Food vendors, Chucky the DJ, drawings, classic cars, antiques, street rods, bikes and more.  Bring your old car and bring the family!  Noon to 4 PM.  $5 registration fee for car owners.  Presented by Jackson Street Cruisers and sponsored by Candi Cane Wireless.

The Michigan Theatre presents Sled Dog Tales from Alaska.  Featuring Jackson native and renowned arctic explorer Joe G. Henderson.  2:30 to 4 PM.  Tickets are $5 at the door.

BBQ Cook-Off.  Barbecue, beer, and live entertainment for a cause at 308 Brass Rail.  4:00pm-7:00pm 308 Prospect St. Jackson.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase new microphones and audio equipment for Center Stage Jackson.  For $10 you’ll get tickets to sample each competitor’s barbecue, one vote for your favorite, and one drink ticket (beer, pop, or water)! A portion of drink sales will also be donated to Center Stage Jackson.   The band Alibi with Center Stage Jackson’s own Karen Kidder and Steve Barrett will be performing classic and contemporary rock LIVE on an outdoor stage from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The party will continue with more live entertainment inside 308 Brass Rail after 7:00pm!

Church in the Park, Cascades Falls Park.  Make shorts and sandals your new “Sunday Best”.  Join in worship at Cascades Falls Park, north parking lot.  Worship in your car, tuning your radio to 1700, or join us on the lawn.  Kids and pets welcome.  Sponsored by Jackson’s First Presbyterian Church.  8:30 AM every Sunday thru August 19th.  Feel free to bring a lawn chair.
