Friday, June 17

Jackson Juneteenth Community Celebration and Resource Fair.  Today, Racial Inequities, Social Justice and Criminal Justice Reform Panel Discussion.  Michigan Theatre, 124 N. Mechanic Street, Jackson.  Doors open at 9:30 am.  The program starts at 10 am.  This event will be telecast live on JTV Channel 21.

Jackson Juneteenth Event:  “1619 – Welcome To America”.  This play is written and directed by Lisa Williams, with music directed by Big Code Blu.  “1619 – Welcome to America” travels through decades of time with song and dance. Watch as time passes with families whose ancestors were once enslaved that deal with the same issues over and over again.  Michigan Theatre.  Doors at 6 pm.  The play starts at 7 pm.  The community is welcome to attend and there is no admission charge.

FootGolf Fundraiser.  6:30 PM.  Sponsored by Queen’s Guild St. Jude Circle.  Open to any adult, 21 and up.  Nine holes of FootGOlf with cart, followed by food, refreshments, and prizes.  Four-person team scramble.  Individuals welcome.  $30 per person.  Sharp Park Golf Course.  Players to provide their now #5 soccer ball and appropriate kicking shoes.  Pizza, salad, and cookies!  Sharp Park coolers & cash bar available.  Registration at 6:00, shotgun start at 6:30 PM.  For registration or questions, call Joan at 517-787-2517.

Live Music with Mike Slim Crupi.  6:30 PM to 9 PM.  Come grab a drink and enjoy some live music from Mike Crupi in our upstairs. Pet friendly!  Jackson Coffee Company, 201 S. Mechanic Street, Downtown Jackson.

Drive-In Movie Night.  7 PM.  Come out and join us for FREE food, fun, and family fellowship on the campus of the Lily Missionary Baptist Church and Lily Missions Center.  Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, your kids and your neighbor and their kids.  Tonight’s movie:  Indivisible (Based on a True Story).  Free family event, free concessions!  Movie will begin at 8:15 or dusk. 1117 Wade Drive, Jackson.

Friday Film Night.  9 PM.  DDA Friday Film Night:  “Back to the Future”.  FREE outdoor movie in the park. Bring the whole family!  TRUE Community City Square, Horace Blackman Park, Downtown Jackson.  Refreshments are available.

Late Night Friday with Chris Canas.  6 PM.  Have a date night or bring a friend out to the winery this Friday evening! Live music by Chris Canas from 6-9 pm with the kitchen open ’til 9:30 pm. 8 to 80 Days Summer Festival.  Village of Springport.  June 17-19.  Downtown Springport.   We’re bringing back 8 to 80 Days. something for EVERYONE fun for ALL!  Food, games, displays, contests, entertainment.

Saturday, June 18

Jackson Juneteenth Community Celebration and Resource Fair.  Today,  Food, Vendors, Resource Fair, Job Fair at True Community Square (Downtown Jackson’s Horace Blackman Park).  2pm – 9pm.  Kids Zone w/ game trailer, foam party, games, petting zoo and more.  Resource Fair, Job Fair & Kids Zone kicks off at 2 p.m. Check out exhibitors around True Community City Square, W. Michigan Avenue & S. Jackson Street, to learn more about resources available. Food and sales vendors will also be on hand.  Enjoy the smooth sounds of Motown, R & B, Gospel and more when entertainment kicks off later that afternoon. Performers include D.J. Jerry Smith, Brandon Marceal, Shantelle & Terrance Hawkins, Big L & Code Blu, and the featured group, The Crasherz. The Crasherz perform hits from multiple genres of music, with something for everyone! All are welcome at this free community event. Al Glick Youth Football Camp  The 3rd annual Al Glick Youth Football Camp on June 18th at Withington Stadium at Jackson High School, 544 Wildwood Avenue, in Jackson.  Camp will take place from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM, with check-in at 11:00 AM.  The cost is 15 dollars per camper and is open to all Jackson County kids entering 4th to 9th grade in the Fall of 2022.  All campers will receive a t-shirt and draw-string bag, light breakfast, lunch, special guest speakers, and non-contact instruction by current high school coaches and former college and pro players.  Register now at Legacy Football or in-person at Withington Stadium.

Marshall Motors Cancer Benefit Cruise-In.  10 AM to 4 PM.  Bring the family for a great day of fun!  Dash plaques for the first 100 vehicles.  Open to all makes, models, and years.  Boats, cars, trucks, bikes, etc.  General Store, Log Cabin, Vintage Museum, Burn-Out Pit, Vintage Playground.  Lots of fun stuff to see and enjoy.  Food and beverage will be available for a small fee. Raffles!  Flame Throwers!  DJ!  Bands and Entertainment!  Special appearance by ShBoom!!  Free admission.  The Marshall Estate, 6161 Baldwin Road, Grass Lake.

2nd Annual Barn Street Fair.  10 AM – 5 PM.  Reality’s Chance Rescue & Sanctuary.  Looking forward to welcoming new and returning local artisans and crafters to this year’s Barn Street Fair! From woodworking to glass and textile arts, this Fair of 30+ vendors will have something for everyone…come on out and enjoy & support the Rescue and our local vendors!  4519 E Berry Rd, Pleasant Lake.

People for the Parks & Trails Volunteer Event.  Our first volunteer opportunity of the summer season is happening this weekend!   Join us as we clean up and mulch Rotary Park. This is a small neighborhood park on Jackson’s east side. For this volunteer event, volunteers will be spreading mulch at the park’s playground, along with removing weeds and brush.   The park is located at 1413 Deyo Street. We’ll see you there!

Free Food Giveaway.  12 PM to 2 PM.  The Dungytreei Heritage Foundation’s Free Food Giveaway.  You don’t need a photo ID. You don’t need to get out of your car. Pull into the parking lot, and our dedicated volunteers will serve you.  In partnership with Oasis of Love Full Gospel Church.  Sponsored by South Michigan Food Bank.  800 South Cooper Street, Jackson.

Concord Food Truck Fundraiser.  3 PM to 7 PM.  The Concord Sophomore class presents its Concord food truck rally fundraiser! Join us for a fun afternoon/ evening of great food and fellowship. Please enter the high school parking lot to park off Monroe Street. Admission is $10 per family, $5 for walk-ups OR $7 per family, and $3 per person if your tickets are pre-purchased on the FoodEaze App.  In honor of Father’s Day, dads get in free! This is a fundraiser for the Sophomore class as we look to raise money for future school-related events. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite truck! The Cascades Rotary Community Bandshell Concert Series.  7 PM.  Join us on June 18th at the Rotary Community Bandshell to listen to Big Foot Bob! His music includes original and classic R&B tunes that will speak to your soul!  The concert is free.  Cascades Falls Park, Jackson.

Sunday, June 19  

On Two Wheels Sunday Morning Breakfast Ride.  9 AM.  This is an OTW-sanctioned road ride. This is a “B” ride, a 14mph-18mph, drop and join the ride with a destination. This ride will take place on Jackson County roads, helmets are REQUIRED for all riders. Some road riding, and group ride skills will be necessary for this ride. Group will be leaving from Paragon Schools parking lot (corner of McCain & Robinson) at 9 am. Starting dates will be a 25-30 mile ride, and as the summer progresses, moving closer to 60-70 miles. Music on the Patio.  7 PM.  Jackson College welcomes the community to a Summer Concert Series on the Potter Center’s “back patio” this summer!  For years, the College presented the Front Porch Concert Series. Now, with renovations and improvements to the Potter Center, the series continues on the back patio! Today’s concert:  Trombonefest — “Baroque to Beatles, Queen and Blue Suede,” all with 30-plus trombones and a rockin’ rhythm section!   These free concerts will begin at 7 p.m. Some seating is available but bringing a lawn chair or blanket is encouraged. Concerts will move indoors in case of rain. 

Claude Bourbon…Guitar Virtuoso.  3 PM to 5 PM.  Ready for a unique and talented take on a wide range of musical traditions? Claude Bourbon is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues, Spanish, and Middle Eastern stylings into uncharted territories.  Claude’s inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur. Thousands of people in the UK, Europe and USA have enjoyed listening to this virtuoso and for the majority of his audience it is an experience that compels them to return again and again to hear and watch him play, as his fingers lightly dance over the strings of his guitar and create a unique sound that is ’Claude’.
