Downtown Art Walk.  5 PM to 8 PM.  This event is apart of the Endless Summer 2019 Event Series.  In collaboration with the Jackson Downtown Development Authority, Michigan Theatre, and Jackson Symphony Orchestra.   The Downtown Jackson Art Walk is a free, walk-able, art-filled Friday evening that allows everyone to explore downtown Jackson’s businesses and see the work of various local artists. During the evening, downtown merchants will partner with talented local artists to bring art into downtown businesses.  Thank you to the Jackson Anchor Initiative for sponsoring this event. Because of their sponsorship, there are no costs to our local businesses and local artists.  Each artist will be showcased in a sponsor business and will have the opportunity to display and sell their artwork to the public!  18 locations throughout Downtown Jackson, including Betty Kay Price at JTV, speed painter Evan Struck at Lean Rocket Lab, Nancy Backus at Orange Peacock Gallery, Carrie Joers at A Frame Above and 180 Chic Boutique.  Complete list here.

Flea Market and Antique Show.  Jackson County Fairgrounds.  10 AM to 5 PM.  Over 125 booths, including  Antiques, Toy Dolls, Knick-Knacks, NASCAR, Glassware Jewelry, Candles and much more.  Enter the Fairgrounds from Blackstone.  Building #3.  Adults $3, children 12 and under free with adult.

Community Resource Fair.  Home of New Vision presents an event for local Jackson agencies to gather in one location, providing the community the opportunity to navigate some of the services available right here in Jackson.  10 AM.  407 W Michigan Avenue, Jackson.  More details here:  homeofnewvision.org/jarc

Grass Lake Community Schools present “Fiddler on the Roof”.  7 PM, Grass Lake Performing Arts Center, 11500 Warrior Trail, Grass Lake.  All tickets are $5.  Seats are assigned and reservations are recommended by calling 517-867-5695.

Live music at the Jackson Coffee Company.  Join us every Friday night for live music and a great cup of coffee!   7 PM to 10 PM.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  The 27th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is on Saturday, May 11, 2019.  Simply leave a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox on Sat, May 11, and your letter carrier will pick it up and distribute to food banks nationally. In Jackson, the Salvation Army will receive the items collected to disburse.  For information about how you can be involved, visit their website.

Jackson County Museum Day.  Hit up all your favorite Jackson museums on Museum Day for FREE!  Each participating museum will be open to the public free of charge, on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Some locations will keep it low-key with an “open-house style” reception and self-guided tours while others are hosting festivals, child-friendly activities, historical demonstrations and providing guided tours. Museum Day is a wonderful opportunity to check some Jackson County Museums off your bucket list and discover what they’re all about.  Participating museums and hours here.

Around the Park for Autism. The 7 th annual Around the park for autism 5K Run/Walk will be May 11 at Cascades Falls Park. JASN has been a nonprofit 501c3 since 2007 and is 100% funded by donations. Our support group offers monthly family support group meetings with free child care, social activities for children and adults, scholarships for those diagnosed with Autism, and more.To help fund our mission we will be hosting a 5K Run/Walk. 10 AM to 1 PM.  Details here.

Pancake Breakfast and Craft Show.  Compassionate Ministries David’s Promise is hosting a Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast and Craft Sale on Saturday, May 11th from 9:00a – 12:00p at The Table.  The breakfast will consist of pancakes, sausage, bacon, fruit, juice, milk and coffee. The cost for an adult is $6.00, children ages 6-11 $3.00, children ages 5 and under eat free. Handmade crafts by our David’s Promise participants will also be available for purchase.  Additionally, our David’s Promise barista’s will be on hand to make your favorite specialty coffee drink. (Additional charge). Rives Tompkins Pancake Breakfast.  Come join us for the 5th annual fireman association pancake breakfast! Held at the Tompkins town hall, from 8am-11am. Meet your local firefighters and eat some delicious pancakes. Cost is by donation only.

Ballet Chelsea’s The Five Dancing Princesses.  The Five Dancing Princesses is an original full-length ballet and Ballet Chelsea’s Artistic Director Wendi DuBois’ light-hearted interpretation of the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” Set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Wendi’s choreography tells the story in an unforgettable manner. Founded in 1995, Ballet Chelsea builds strong individuals through high caliber training and performance excellence while giving back to the audience that supports them through arts education and community outreach.  2 PM, Jackson College Potter Center. Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s Music on Tap Series.  8 PM, Weatherwax Hall. The Frances Luke Accord is what NPR’s Mountain Stage calls “the definition of lean-in music.” Their soulful, effortless branch of indie-folk is orchestrated with spare and sophisticated acoustic threads woven into a lush backdrop for their intimate melodies. Their voices create a delicate and powerful magic that commands the room to attention. A show not to be missed! Annual Blessing of the Bikes and Car Show.  12 N to 7 PM.  JaxNaz Church, 2905 Clinton Road.  Individual Blessings from Noon to 3: p.m., Blessing Service 1 and 2:30.  Music from Noon to 3 by Jonhnny DJ Taylor, Door Prizes noon to 3.

Banjo Brown Eyes Margaret “Maggie” Bilby Memorial Concert.  1 PM to 6 PM. Head over to Cambridge Junction Historic State Park for a Gospel Bluegrass concert extravaganza on the lawn of Walker Tavern. This special memorial concert commemorates the amazing Margaret “Maggie” Bilby, who passed away in November 2018. Maggie served as the Friends of Walker Tavern president, taught music lessons in the community and was inducted into the Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association’s Hall of Honor in 2017.  The concert will feature sets by Red, White and Bluegrass, Front Paige Band, and Out of the Blue. The event will conclude with an open jam session from 4-6 p.m.

Knights of Columbus Breakfast.  St Marys Star of the Sea: Welcomes you and your family to our 2018-2019 season tradition Knights of Columbus Breakfasts. Join us in fellowship with your family.  Date: Sunday, May 12th.  Time: 9:00 till 11:30.  Location: 120 E. Wesley, Jackson Michigan. Mothers Day Drive In/Fly In Lions Club Pancake Breakfast.  7 AM to 11 AM.  7935 Napoleon Road, Napoleon.  Pancakes, sausage, eggs and drinks.  Door prizes.  Donations accepted.
