Friends of the Eastern Branch Book Sale.  Stop by the Eastern Branch to shop sales on fiction and non-fiction books, juvenile and young adult books, as well as movies and magazines.  Friday 9 AM – 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM – 2 PM  (“Fill-a-Bag” for $1 Saturday).  All proceeds are used to support JDL programming.  Eastern Branch, Jackson District Library, 3125 East Michigan Avenue, Jackson.

An Evening at the Arbor.  6 PM.  It’s our pleasure to host An Evening at the Arbor on campus at the McDonald Athletic Center. We invite you and your guests for a night of great food, networking, and fun. Throughout the event, you will have the opportunity to interact with our students, faculty, and several community partners.  This year’s An Evening at the Arbor highlights the Gainey School of Business and celebrates the accomplishments of our students, faculty and alumni serving as business professionals – strong Christian leaders who are experienced critical thinkers, expert problem solvers and ethical employees.  Heavy appetizers will be served beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will conclude with a dessert reception. The Future of Comedy Show at 308 Brass Rail.  8 PM.  On this episode of The Future of Comedy Show we are back with another incredible line up with nationally touring headliner Mike Ball and the incredibly talented Josh Adams from FOX, BET and Live at The Apollo. Late Night Friday with Live Music.  6 PM to 9 PM.  It’s finally time to emerge from winter! Help us kick-off Michigan Wine Month with our first late Friday of the 2022 season. Spring Arbor Pancake Day.  Annual Pancake Breakfast, Spring Arbor Fire Station, 6 AM – 1 PM.  Annual Pancake Breakfast: Our Fire Department will host its Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 7, 2022. This is a great community event that supports our Fire Department. 

Jackson County Free Museum Day.  Eleven participating Jackson County, Michigan museums will be open to the public, free of charge on Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for Jackson County Free Museum Day. Some locations will host an “open-house style” reception and self-guided tours while others are hosting child-friendly activities, historical demonstrations and providing guided tours.  Get the list of participating museums and other details here.

 Free Comic Book Day.  10 AM – 3 PM.  Nostalgia, Ink.  Free Comic Book Day is a single day each year when participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops.  Each year our store event typically includes, in addition to 2 free comics per person (from a specific selection), raffles, prizes, tabletop gaming, discounts on everything in our store, and additional free comics based on total dollar amount of purchases. This year for our Free Comic Book Day event we are also adding DOUBLE-POINTS to purchases made by our active subscribers as part of our Loyalty Reward Program!  Don’t miss out! People for the Parks and Trails Clean-Up Event.  10 AM.  Betsy Butterfield Park is one of Jackson’s most frequented neighborhood parks, so it’s important the park looks its best! For this project, volunteers will spread mulch in the playground, remove leaves and trim bushes. The park is located at 2101 S. West Ave.  Volunteer projects are open to all Jackson residents. No prior sign-up is needed, volunteers can show up and get to work! Equipment is provided by the Parks and Recreation Department. The time commitment is often around 90 minutes. Children are welcome at volunteer opportunities, provided they are supervised.  It is recommended that volunteers bring their own gardening gloves and water.  More details here.

Wine Release Event.  12 PM to 5 PM.  Our first wine release in honor of Michigan Wine Month is Raspberry Rosé! We’ve all been missing our favorite fruit wine, especially as a raspberry slushee! Music by Rozlyn Heart & Gold Coast Acoustic from 1-4 pm.  Raspberry Rosé: A crisp blend of citrusy Chardonel and our luscious sweet-tart raspberry wine. The Oakridge Boys.  7:00 PM.  The Oakridge Boys’ sound is one of the most distinctive and recognizable in the music industry.  The group’s four-part harmonies and upbeat songs have spawned dozens of country hits and a No 2 pop smash, earned them Grammy, Dove, CMA and ACM awards and garnered a host of other industry and fan accolades.  Every time they step before an audience, the Oak Ridge Boys bring four decades of charted singles and 50 years of tradition to a stage show widely acknowledged as among the most exciting anywhere.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the Potter Center Ticket Office at 517.796.8600.  Or online at: jccmi.edu/pottercenter/ticket-information  Potter Center Music Hall, Jackson College.

Music on Tap Series.  8 PM.  Songwriter Showcase with John D. Lamb.  John D. Lamb returns with another of his very popular Songwriter Showcases. Those who have attended these concerts in the past know that John uses his deep connections in the Michigan songwriting community to fill the stage with amazing artists. John is the consummate MC and lends his considerable songwriting chops to an evening that is sure to once again impress the Weatherwax Hall audience.  Additional Singer/Songwriters will be Linden Thoburn, Michael Crittenden, and Amy Petty.  Advance sale tickets $15, day of tickets $20.  Weatherwax Hall, 215 West Michigan Avenue, Downtown Jackson.  Tickets:  517-782-3221 and at jacksonsymphony.org.  

AWARE Shelter Kentucky Derby Event.  Saturday, May 7th.  5-8 pm (VIP cocktail hour from 4-5 pm).  Commonwealth Commerce Center Grand Ballroom.  Join The AWARE Shelter of Jackson for a cash bar, southern fare meal, wagering games, live entertainment, a best hat and best tie competition, and a live streaming of the 2022 Kentucky Derby.  Tickets are $85 per person, $150 for two tickets, or $500 for a table of 6.  Mother’s Day at the Vineyard.  12 PM to 5 PM.  Treat your mother to a day at the vineyard! Have a special Mother’s Day board featuring an in-house quiche, coffee cake, port dip with fruit & bacon.
