This 1991 landmark drama from visionary filmmaker John Singleton offers a powerful and unflinching look at the lives of young men in South Central Los Angeles. Through themes of race, relationships, community violence, and the search for a better future, Boyz n the Hood remains a deeply resonant and essential story. Starring an incredible cast—including Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, and Laurence Fishburne—the film earned Singleton two Academy Award nominations, making him the youngest and first African American director to receive a nomination for Best Director.  Michigan Theatre, Downtown Jackson.
