Car Seat Check Ups.  1 PM to 3 PM.  Jackson area families wanting to make sure their children travel safely can take advantage of a new program from the Jackson Fire Department (JFD). Firefighters have launched the Car Seat Inspection  Program, which will have crews checking car seats once a month for the rest of 2022.  The inspections are free and no prior sign-up is needed. Jackson families are welcome to visit the Central Fire Station, 518 N. Jackson St., for the checks today from 1 to 3 PM.  Other dates:  Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1-3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 1-3 p.m.  Firefighters request parents or guardians bring their children and car seats to the inspection. Crews will look to make sure the car seat is in proper working order, fastened to the vehicle correctly, and is a safe fit for the child. A limited number of car seat replacements are available for free if firefighters find a seat is unsafe.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Horace Blackman Park.  Registration and Pre-Walk activities, 5:00 pm.  Opening Ceremony 6:00 pm.  Walk 6:15 pm.  Support this important cause to raise funds to take steps toward a world without Alzheimer’s and dementia.  More than six million people in the US live with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.  The event helps provide care and support for more than 190,000 Michiganders affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Sip and Shop During Alzheimer’s Walk.  Shop Local During the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Sip & Shop before, during, and after the annual Jackson Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Participating downtown businesses will be open from 4 – 7 pm for a Sip & Shop.  Watch for purple lights in the downtown windows and posts on how the business’ have partnered with the walk this year!  Learn more about the Jackson Walk to End Alzheimer’s here:  act.alz.org/jacksonmi

REO Speedwagon in Concert.  7 PM.  Potter Center, Jackson College.  Fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. Platinum albums and radio staples soon followed, setting the stage for the release of the band’s explosive Hi Infidelity in 1980, which contained the massive hit singles “Keep On Loving You,” and “Take It On the Run.” REO Speedwagon has sold 40 million albums around the globe, and Cronin and bandmates Bruce Hall (bass), Neal Doughty (keyboards), Dave Amato (guitar), and Bryan Hitt (drums) are still electrifying audiences worldwide. Zoerman’s Zombies Haunted 3D Experience.  A haunted 3D experience brought to you by the creator’s of Zombiewoods and Art 634! This Halloween, the spirits of prisoners past have taken over the artists of Art 634 to create an army of zombies, and finally overcome the torturous Zoerman.  Will you escape Zoerman’s Closet in this haunted 3D experience? Only if you can convince the demon baby.  Running every Thursday – Sunday, 6pm – 12am through November 6th.  6-8p: Kid-friendly and for the faint of heart. John Louis Good and the Troubadours.  7 PM.  JLG at Ironbark Brewing Company.  John Louis Good & The Rose City Troubadours returns to Ironbark Brewing Company in Jackson, MI on Friday October 14th, 7pm-10pm.  2610 Kibby Rd, Jackson.

CPCAN’s Spooktacular Family Fun Run and 5K.  Join us at our annual fundraiser! This family fun run/walk and 5K will benefit CPCAN and includes a lot of fun! Costumes are encouraged (family friendly please). Admission to this event includes door prizes, food, fun, and more!  $30 per family also includes a color changing cup for each child, participation in a costume contest, and trick or treating.  $15 per 5K runner also includes a self timed 5K and a water bottle.  Preregister through Eventbrite or register on site the day of the event (cash only if registering the day of the event).  Cascades Falls Park.  Registration and information here.

Fun Fall FAFSA Event.  11 AM to 7 PM.  Join the College & Career Access Center for free accurate assistance in completing the FAFSA form.  El Verde free barbecue!  Prized for every student!  1082 Jackson Crossing, Target Wing.

Space Aliens – Hurst Planetarium.  1 pm & 3 pm.  Is life out there? How would we know? What are the signs to look for? If you have ever wondered about life somewhere else in the universe, join us at the Hurst planetarium as we attempt to answer these questions.   Space Aliens is one of many Halloween themed activities the museum has in the month of October. Old Time Radio Show.  Do you enjoy nostalgia and history? Join us to hear an Old Time Radio Show presented by Center Stage Jackson.  The shows will include Episode 1 of Flash Gordon: Amazing Interplanetary Adventures (1935) and the comedy Fibber McGee and Molly from “The Flying Saucer” (1950). Fall is for Families.  Fall is for families at the Jackson YMCA! Sundays throughout the month of October members and the community can stop by the Y from 11 to 1 pm and enjoy open areas of the YMCA for some fun. Each Sunday we will feature a different area – rock wall, gym games and family swim.  Become a new member and take advantage of the $0 Join fees on all memberships for a savings of up to $100 through the month of October.  End the month with us on Oct. 29 from noon to 2 pm, for some Halloween fun! Jackson County ISD will be handing out free books, visitors can enjoy the floating pumpkin patch in the YMCA pool, inflatables in the gym, and cider & donuts.  Visit our website at jacksonYMCA.org for more information.

Auditions for Guys & Dolls.  6 PM.  Croswell Opera House, Adrian.  Auditions for our all-area high school production of Guys and Dolls will take place on Monday, October 10 from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 from 3-6 p.m.  Callbacks will take place the evening of Monday, October 17.  If you are unable to make either of these audition dates, please email Jen Letherer at jletherer@croswell.org to arrange a virtual audition.  To see a list of roles, please go to https://www.mtishows.com/guys-and-dolls and then click on “Full Cast Info.”  The Croswell’s all-area high school show is open to students in grades 9-12. Songwriters Showcase.  2 PM.  The Michigan Theatre of Jackson will host the second Songwriter’s Showcase of the season. What an afternoon it will be. The performers include Audra Kubat, Emily Rose, Steve Trosin, and Michael Robertson.  Doors open at 1:30 PM  The format is “Songwriters in the Round”.
