Honkey Tonk at Oak + Iron Grand Opening. The NEW Honky Tonk at Oak + Iron invited you to a two-day Grand Opening & Halloween Party on October 31 and November 1, 2025.  Get ready for two epic nights of classic and modern country music hits as The Honky Tonk at Oak + Iron officially opens its doors! Special performance from Toryn Green (former lead singer of Fuel) + Jon Torrence, Zak Polk, Joshua Reese, Logan White, and Carolina Marques.  $10 cover at the door. Nite Lites Halloween Drive-Thru. Final Day! The New Nite Lites Halloween light show is a drive-thru attraction roughly 2 miles for all ages to experience with no scary actors from the comfort of your own car. Train rides will be available. 40 Years in the Hood:  Detroit’s Heidelberg Project Exhibition.    Witness an extraordinary exhibition curated by renowned Detroit-based artist Tyree Guyton, whose work has transformed the art world and inspired communities for over 40 years. Tyree Guyton is best known for his iconic Heidelberg Project, which has turned discarded objects into powerful symbols of community, resilience, and hope.“Armed with a paintbrush, a broom, and neighborhood children, Guyton and Grandpa began by cleaning up vacant lots on Heidelberg Street”.   Ella Sharp Museum.

Melanie Benjamin Author Talk. 7 PM.  Join us at this exciting in-person author event with Melanie Benjamin, the bestselling author of California Golden, the Aviator’s Wife, and The Children’s Blizzard, among many others! Sandhill Crane Field Trip at Haehnle Sanctuary. 3:30 PM to 7 PM.  Join us for a short walk through a restored native prairie with some birding surprises before 2,000 Sandhill Cranes fly into the marsh. Join Detroit Bird Alliance and Jackson Audubon Society at 3:30 p.m. for a short walk through a restored native prairie which is not only full of flowers but sometimes some birding surprises like LeConte’s Sparrow. Next the group will gather on the hill at 4:30 pm to watch up to 2,000 Sandhill Cranes fly in to the marsh to roost for the night. It’s an amazing sight with the accompanying distinctive Sandhill Crane calls. You can also watch from the hill where there are benches (you can drive right to the site). Up to 2000 Sandhill Cranes fly in to roost in the marsh for the night as they have been doing since the last ice age! Dress warmly, as it can be cold. A blanket or lawn chair to sit on would come in handy. There is a porta potty in the parking lot. Learn more about the Haehnle Sanctuary HERE.
