Grand River Farmers Market.  9 AM to 2 PM.  You’re invited to join us riverside for a healthy dose of good food, good music, and good community! We’ve got dozens of weekly rotating vendors offering Seasonal fruits & veggies, meats, cheeses, coffee, honey, pasta, artisan breads, baked goods, dairy, plants, flowers, bath and body, hand-crafted artisan wares, and more!  Entertainment and food truck.  We’ve also got prepared food and frozen make-n-take dinners.  We’ll be open rain or shine – hope to see you there!  Glick and Mechanic, Downtown Jackson.

TOPIA: Art+Tech Festival.  5 PM to 10 PM.  TOPIA envisions a future for our community that is energized by the fusion of art and cutting-edge technology to illuminate a path towards a positive and inspiring future. Topia brings a novel immersive experience to our community. Stomp Out Suicide.  6 PM to 9 PM.  Grand Ballroom, Commonwealth Commerce Center.  Every year in September, the nation recognizes National Suicide Prevention Month. Please join the Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition at Stomp Out Suicide, an event of education, awareness, and solidarity for suicide prevention. Our annual Stomp Out Suicide event will take place on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 6-9 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Commonwealth Commerce Center in Jackson, MI. This year’s event will feature activities to honor and remember those who struggle or who have been lost to suicide. We will share stories of hope, offer door prizes, and resources at our passport booths. There will be an outdoor luminary walk at dusk to honor lives lost to suicide. It is our goal to honor lives lost to suicide, celebrate survivors, and support their friends and families. We also aim to spread awareness on the impact suicide has had in our community.  Standard registration will be $15 per ticket for pre-registration until the event. Grass Lake Relay for Life.  4:30 PM to 11:30 PM.  The Grass Lake Relay For Life Event is held during the football game to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.  All are welcome to walk and support the mission.  Grass Lake High School.

Late Night Friday Live Music with Pinter Whitlock.  6 PM to 9 PM.  Join us for a 80’s & 90’s night with live music by one of our favorites, Pinter Whitnick!  Sandhill Crane Vineyards, 4724 Walz Rd, Jackson.

Marcus & Tiffany Shelton at Veritas.  6 PM to 9 PM.  Marcus and Tiffany Shelton are classically trained singers who have been married for over 20 years. In his longtime opera career, Marcus was honored to sing on stages around the world, and with some of the biggest names in the business; and Tiffany has largely focused her music degree and velvety pipes on jazz and musical theatre. They will be performing their signature mix of genres and styles, including: classic rock, opera, 90s alternative, mellow 70s gold, country, big band favorites, and more! An Intimate Evening with the Van Buren Boys.  7 PM to 10 PM.  Come listen to the soothing sounds of the Van Buren Boys playing stripped down, deconstructed, totally raw versions of all your favorite 90s hits. In other words, we’re playing an acoustic set.  The Dirty Bird, 140 West Michigan Avenue, Downtown Jackson.

Saturday, September 7

Grand River Farmers Market.  9 AM to 2 PM.  Tailgate Day!  Just in time for regular season kickoff, we’re celebrating National Tailgating Day! Don’t be sidelined – Wear your favorite team colors or dress as your favorite mascot – and come vote for the best decorated vendor booth! We’ll even have cornhole set up on the lawn! And of course, get everything you need on your list from appetizers, burgers, brats/peppers/onions, chicken, breads, greens, cheeses, to snacks and sweets to make a memorable weekend – Some of our food vendors may have a special tailgating recipe for you that can be made with their product!

Superhero and Princess 5K for Child Abuse Prevention.  9:30 AM.  Presented by the Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (CPCAN).  Cascades Park, South Pavilion. Dress up as your favorite super hero or princess and join us for a family friendly 5K walk/run! We will have food, door prizes, and more! You can pre-register via Paypal or Venmo, or with cash the day of the event. All money raised will assist us in continuing our efforts to educate and strengthen the community to prevent child abuse and neglect. We hope to see you there!  Event page here.

Astronomical Observatory Viewing Night. Jackson College’s Astronomical Observatory will be open this Saturday and Sunday, 9-11 p.m. (weather permitting). Look at the stars through this new, high-powered telescope. In case there is a short wait to get inside, you may want to bring a lawn chair for your comfort. Paint Jackson Plein Air Event – Call for Artists.  Join us for an inspiring weekend at the Ella Sharp Museum’s first annual Paint Jackson Plein Air Event! Blue Mass.  10 AM.  Honoring all law enforcement officers, firefighters, and first responders for their service in our community.  Free brunch provided to all first responders and their families following the mass.  St. Mary Sttar of the Sea Church, 120 E. Napoleon Township Fire Department 100th Anniversary.  12 PM to 3 PM.  The Napoleon Township Fire Department will be celebrating their 100th year anniversary with an Open House. The community is invited to celebrate!  The event features trucks and gear from the beginning to today.  Plus a bounce house, food, and games. There will also be an extrication demonstration with the jaws of life.

Swingin’ at the Shell Season Finale!  Grab a chair & enjoy!  It’s the 20th Season!  Swingin’ at the Shell is an annual series of FREE music concerts, held each Sunday during the summer at 6 p.m. in beautiful Albion, Michigan.  Come out and enjoy a wide variety of sounds including Jazz, Soul, Rock, Brass, Big Band, Celtic, Piano, Funk, Blues, and more.  The Victory Park Band Shell has plenty of room for you and your friends to have a great time!
