Mural Restoration & End of Summer Patio Party. 4 PM to 5:30 PM.  Celebrate summer on the JSA rooftop patio as we welcome back artist Emily Ding to restore our beloved 2019 Bright Walls Lion & Mouse Mural! Join Jackson School of the Arts for an end-of-summer celebration on our patio as we celebrate the restoration of one of our most beloved pieces of JSA: the Lion & Mouse Mural! Originally created in 2019 by artist Emily Ding as part of the Bright Walls Mural Festival, the Lion has been a colorful and familiar part of our building ever since. Now, thanks to a partnership between Jackson School of the Arts and Bright Walls, this iconic mural is getting some much-needed TLC. Even better, Emily Ding is returning to Jackson to restore her original work! We are flying Emily back to town so she can bring her mural back to life herself. Come celebrate the end of summer with us, enjoy the patio, cash bar, live music, and help us welcome back the artist behind a mural that has become part of the JSA community.  Tickets here (no tickets at the door).

Lunar Eclipse Viewing Event.  Sunset to 1 AM.  Spend an evening under the stars as Jackson College invites the community to witness one of nature’s most fascinating celestial events — a partial lunar eclipse — on Thursday, Aug. 27. The Jackson College Astronomical Observatory will be open from sunset until 1 a.m., giving visitors plenty of time to watch the moon gradually move into Earth’s shadow. As the eclipse unfolds, the moon will appear to darken, offering a spectacular sight visible without special equipment. Guests are welcome to stop by throughout the evening to enjoy telescope views of the eclipse, learn more about how lunar eclipses occur, and experience the night sky with fellow astronomy enthusiasts.  Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to view with the naked eye. Binoculars or telescopes can provide an even closer look at the moon’s changing appearance as it passes through Earth’s shadow. The event is free and open to the public. The Jackson College Astronomical Observatory is located on the Central Campus, 2111 Emmons Road in Jackson. Weather conditions may affect viewing opportunities.
