Jackson’s Railroad History. Join us on Thursday, August 29th at 6:00PM at the historic Jackson Amtrak station for an engaging event hosted by the Jackson County Michigan Historical Society. This special evening will delve into Jackson, Michigan’s rich railroad history, highlighting the pivotal role the railroads played in the development and growth of Jackson County. From the arrival of the first trains to the bustling activity of the station in its heyday, we’ll explore the fascinating stories and historical milestones that have helped to shaped Jackson’s identity as a railroad hub. Mr. Doug Leffler is retired from a three-decade engineering technical-writing career at two defense and aerospace firms in his hometown of Jackson, Mich., where he and wife Sandy are longtime residents. Presented by Jackson County MI Historical Society.

Ella Sharp Museum Patio Party.  Step into a world of summer magic with the Ella Sharp Museum’s Summer Patio Party Series, where we’re excited to host evenings filled with food, drinks, live entertainment, and fun! As we celebrate our roots dating back to 1965, we’re honored to share the rich history of our community. But this event isn’t just about the past — it’s about savoring the present moment. It’s an experience designed to create memories with loved ones and community members. Join us for a special evening where members will receive a free drink ticket and appetizers, while non-members can still enjoy the appetizers and visit the cash bar for their favorite beverages. Each event will include live performances by local artists and bands. Be sure to mark your calendars for: August 29th with music by Steve Tucker, September 19th with music TBD.  Admission is $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members, ensuring everyone can join in the fun. Silent Disco at Ogma Beer Garden.  Once again, we’re teaming up with Whoa Disco and Phil Morgan to bring an epic night of silent disco to the Ogma Beer Garden! Join us for this free, all-ages event on Thursday, August 29, from 7:30-9:30 pm in the Ogma Beer Garden. The three music genres you’ll get to switch between for this evening will be 70’s Rock, 90’s, and EDM/Dance! Whoa Disco will provide 100 pairs of freshly sanitized wireless headphones, adjustable for all sizes, to dance the night away in our laser light enhanced beer garden! We can’t wait! Everyone is invited to come out, move your body, and have some fun. Bring the kiddos to burn off some of that summer energy! A silent disco is a unique party experience where attendees dance to music broadcasted through wireless headphones. Each person can choose their own music channel, creating a fun, personalized atmosphere while maintaining a quiet environment.  129 East Michigan, Downtown Jackson.

Angel Baby Screening and Q&A.  6:30 PM.  Screening of the movie Angel Baby! Doors open 6:30pm, film begins at 7pm.  Admission is $10, members buy one get one free! Q&A with lead actress, Isabel Cueva and actor/director Douglas Tait, will follow after the screening.  Join us and hear about the making of the “Angel Baby”, ask questions and meet them after the screenings.” Actress, writer, director and producer Isabel Cueva is an award winning actress, and has worked with top actors in Hollywood. Actor, Director, Douglas Tait, is known as an actor for playing Jason in the end scene of Freddy VS Jason, Hellboy, The Jack Links, Sasquatch and playing villains. He was a double as Michael Myers in Halloween Kills.  Michigan Theatre, Downtown Jackson.

College Catch Up Workshop. 1 – 2 p.m. Center for Student Success, Bert Walker Hall, Room 138, Jackson College Central Campus. Are you new to taking college courses or coming back after taking some time off and want to make sure you have all the skills to get started? The Jackson College Center for Student Success is offering FREE College Catch-Up workshops to help you with:

  • Canvas Training
  • Learn differences between Canvas, JetStream, JetWay and more.
  • Learn to manage your time by building a weekly study/homework schedule.
  • Learn how to download and use Microsoft Office for free as a student!
  • Students will also review basic computer skills like opening e-mail, creating and saving documents, using different Internet browsers and more.
