Michigan Theatre Member Movie Night:  One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.  7 PM.  Every Thursday, the public will be treated to some of the finest films ever made. The doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 pm. The box office will be open at 6:30 pm. The cost is $5 per film. Present your Michigan Theatre Membership Card and receive FREE ADMISSION.  ABOUT THE FILM: When Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it will be a less restrictive environment. But the martinet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward’s patients.  Michigan Theatre, Downtown Jackson.

Poetry Out Loud.  9 AM to 5 PM. James McDivitt Hall, Room 218, Jackson College Central Campus. Poetry Out Loud—presented in partnership with Michigan Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation—lifts poetry off the page, creating community and connection.  Through this program, high school students across the country participate in a dynamic poetry recitation competition that is designed to improve their public speaking skills, help build confidence, and teach them about literary history and contemporary life. Since the program began in 2005, more than 4.4 million students across the country have participated in Poetry Out Loud. On November 21st and 22nd at Jackson College, high school students compete for a chance to win our local Poetry Out Loud competition! Students will recite works selected from an anthology of more than 1,200 poems. Judges will evaluate student performances on criteria including voice and articulation, evidence of understanding, and accuracy. The winner of our local competition will advance to the state Poetry Out Loud competition in Lansing on March 14-15th 2025.

Jackson Police Department Turkey Drive Thru. 10 AM to 12 PM.  Jackson police officers are helping local families get a turkey on the table this Thanksgiving. The Jackson Police Department’s third annual Turkey Drive-Thru event is happening Thursday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the American 1 Event Center, which is located in the Jackson County Fairgrounds. The Turkey Drive-Thru is only open to Jackson residents. No prior sign up is necessary and the turkeys are free. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles, entering the fairgrounds using the N. Blackstone Street entrance and driving through the parking lot to the turkey distribution site. Jackson officers will be there to distribute the turkeys to local families. Drivers are to leave the fairgrounds using the W. Ganson Street exit.  Turkeys will be available while supplies last. Only one turkey will be given to each vehicle. The American 1 Event Center at the Jackson County Fairgrounds is located at 200 W. Ganson St.

Ogma Artist Series:  Super Natural.  6:30 PM to 8 PM.  Join us for the unveiling of our 6th Ogma Artist Series exhibition, featuring new artwork by Benjamin Pollock (Milwaukee, WI). The opening reception, titled ‘Super Natural,’ will include an artwork reveal and a brief artist talk. Artwork pricing information will be available upon request. This show will be displayed from November 21, 2024, to May 2025. Our regular hours, food, and drinks will be available during the reception. Open to the public.  Ogma Brewing Company, 129 East Michigan Avenue, Downtown Jackson.

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life. New Exhibit at Ella Sharp Museum.  Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, explores the key ingredients in Julia’s personal journey, which became part of America’s culinary revolution, through a series of immersive experiences. Julia’s insatiable curiosity and tenacious spirit drove her to endlessly try, test, and teach how to make delicious food. Learning empowered Julia and she in turn empowered others, profoundly transforming American cuisine and food culture.  Julia Child: A Recipe for Life is a traveling exhibition produced and toured by Flying Fish, developed in collaboration with Napa Valley Museum, supported by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, the Schlesinger Library, Harvard Radcliffe Institute, and generously sponsored by Oceania Cruises.  Tuesday – Friday: 10 am – 5 pm, Saturday: 11:30am – 4pm, Sunday – Monday: Closed.  Admission includes Museum Galleries and Hurst Planetarium Shows.  Check here for updates.
