Ribbon Cutting and Open House.  Jackson School of the Arts.  You are invited to attend a ribbon cutting and open house at the new downtown home of Jackson School of the Arts.  We’d love to show you around!  The all-new beautiful Jackson School of the Arts, 135 W. Cortland Street, Downtown Jackson.  Our new building is ready to welcome students this fall in the former Vermeulen Furniture building, completely transformed into a state-of-the-art learning and performance space.  Classrooms, studios, theatre, study areas, and more.  4 PM to 5:30 PM.  Ribbon cutting at 4:30 PM.

Neighborhood Meeting.  Residents in Jackson’s Fourth Ward have an upcoming opportunity to meet with their City Council representative and learn the latest news from their neighborhood. City Councilmember Laura Dwyer Schlecte is holding a neighborhood meeting for Jackson’s Fourth Ward at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will feature information on the W. Washington Avenue two-way conversion, updates on City ordinances, and a presentation from the Racial Equity Commission. First Presbyterian Church is located at 743 W. Michigan Ave. All Jackson residents are welcome to attend. 

The Green Market at Henry Ford Allegiance Health.  Shop for Halloween and the Holiday Season this week at the Green Market!  Spooktacular treats!  Fruits, vegetables, honey and more.  9 AM to 2 PM.  Corner of East Michigan Avenue and Waterloo Street, Jackson.  

The Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest.  Jackson District Library.  Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite literary/book character! All ages are welcome to participate.  To submit, send a photo of your pumpkin to marketing@myjdl.com with your name and phone number any time from October 1-25.  All entries will be entered into a drawing for prizes including an Amazon gift card, movie tickets and a Meijer gift card.  The winner will be announced on November 1 and entries will be displayed on JDL’s Facebook page.

Art à Loan Exhibit.  The Ella Sharp Museum’s annual Art à Loan program celebrates and shares the talents of K-12 student artists throughout Jackson County. At the end of each school year, dedicated area art teachers select student artwork to be professionally framed, exhibited at the Ella Sharp Museum, then rented and displayed in local businesses. In 2021, to further showcase student talent within Jackson County, we’ve partnered with the Jackson District Library’s “Young Poets” Program. Winners from Art à Loan were thematically paired with winners from Young Poets and will be featured in a special exhibition at the Ella Sharp Museum, October 6–31, 2021, then will be on view throughout the community until fall 2022.
