Celebrate Black History Month at Jackson College. 12 PM. Celebrate Black History Month at Jackson College with a special luncheon on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 12-1:30 p.m. in Bert Walker Hall’s Community Rooms. During this celebration, African-American Community Liaison Sade Grant will offer a heartfelt tribute on the significance of Black History Month. Participants may also enjoy a captivating performance by musician Larry Sumner Jr. and his band, Big L & Code Blu. The celebration will include free lunch for students, staff and community members. Black History Month is a time to remember and celebrate the achievements of black Americans. The event grew out of the first “Negro History Week,” in 1926, the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. February coincides with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
