US Women’s National Balloon Championship.  The 2023 US Women‘s National Championship will take place July 16-21 in Jackson, Michigan. This year‘s event will precede the 40th anniversary of Jackson‘s Hot Air Jubilee weekend. The Championship is sanctioned by the Balloon Federation of America (BFA) and its Hot Air Competition Division (HACD).  It’s a Celebration!  The 40th Anniversary of Jackson’s Hot Air Jubilee – this year a full week of ballooning as Jackson hosts the Women’s National Balloon Championship.   The Women’s competition flights will occur July 17-21, leading up to the Hot Air Jubilee July 21-23, at Ella Sharp Park.    Hot Air Balloons will fill the skies during the weekend with launches scheduled for Friday evening, Saturday morning and evening and Sunday morning, weather permitting, with fantastic ‘night glows’ in the evenings. Other activities include helicopter rides, a car show, Jeep night, and Kids’ Kingdom, free bounce house and inflatable obstacle course , and there will be Food Trucks and a Beer Tent.  Visit Hot Air Jubilee for more information!

Grand River Brewery Pizza Making Class.  Take your friends and family on a tasty trip with your new pizza making skills! Grand River Brewery Jackson is hosting an adult pizza making class, where you can learn to make delicious wood-fired pizzas. For $25 per person, you get to make your own pizza with live instruction from a seasoned chef, all while enjoying your favorite GRB beverage! We are also offering a $20 ticket for those ages 13-20 with a non-alcoholic drink of their choice. Take full advantage of the fresh ingredients and wood-fired stove at GRB to inspire some delicious cooking action. The class fee covers the pizza as well as the drink. This class will be on July 18th from 5:00-6:00pm, and then offered again from 6:30-7:30pm.  Event page here.

Jackson Ward 1 Neighborhood Meeting.  6 PM.  Residents in Jackson’s First Ward have an upcoming opportunity to meet with their City Council  representative and learn the latest news from their neighborhood. City Councilmember Arlene Robinson is holding a neighborhood meeting for the City’s First Ward on Tuesday, July 18, 6:00 p.m. at the MLK Recreation Center. Councilmember Robinson organized the meeting for residents to learn about new homes being built in the City, street construction projects, and a breakdown of how City taxes are used. Ward 1 covers Jackson’s south side neighborhoods. All residents are welcome to attend. The MLK  Recreation Center is located at 1107 Adrian St.

Nixon Water Park.  The City of Jackson Nixon Water Park season is now underway.  Hours are Monday thru Saturday 11 AM to 3 PM, session price $5.  3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, session price $4.  Senior Swim:  Tuesday and Friday, 9 AM to 10:30 AM, session price $2.  Closed Sundays.  400 E. North Street at Cooper Street, Jackson.
