Read to a Shelter Cat. Looking for a fun and meaningful summer activity for your child? Join us at the Jackson County Animal Shelter for our Read to a Shelter Cat program! Children entering 2nd through 5th grade are invited to spend one-on-one time reading aloud to our adoptable cats. Reading to animals helps children build confidence, improve reading skills, and enjoy a relaxed, judgment-free environment. At the same time, the cats benefit from the extra socialization and companionship. Program Dates & Times: Tuesdays: 12:00–2:00 p.m. and Fridays: 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. (Beginning July 10).
