Drug Summit 7.  American 1 Event Center.  The Drug Summit is being co-hosted by the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Drug Free Jackson. Drug Summit 7 is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided.  The Summit will begin at 8:20 a.m. and finish at 2:45 p.m. Online registration is available at the Drug Free Jackson website and the link to register is DrugFreeJackson.com/summit . This Summit will focus on the devastating problem of heroin and prescription opioid abuse in our community and in particular, the emergence of fentanyl and its connection with drug overdose deaths in our community, state and country.  Citizens are invited to attend and learn more about this issue and what you can do to help. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Cara Poland who is an expert in addiction medicine and she will talk about the current state of heroin and prescription opioid abuse after the COVID epidemic.  Michigan State Police Lieutenant Ben Garrison will also speak about emerging drug trends and the impact of fentanyl, especially in Jackson County.  There will be several panel discussions involving those in recovery, including one panel from Andy’s Place.  In addition, there will be a youth panel discussing the opioid issue.  There will also be providers offering free information and resources about recovery from substance abuse.  American 1 Event Center, Keeley Park.

DSLR 2:  Getting the Most out of Your DLSR.  10 AM to 12 PM.  In this second class in our series, you will learn more about camera controls, metering, exposure, focusing and more. DinoSOARS!  Change Over Time.  Did you know? Birds are living dinosaurs!  Follow the story of Malkia, a museum paleontologist, as she explores fascinating connections between birds and dinosaurs. Join us as we dive into the theory that birds evolved from dinosaurs!  Showings are: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: 11am (Especially for kids!) and 4pm. Admission includes Museum Galleries and Hurst Planetarium Shows.  Adults: $10, Children up to 17: $5, Adults Over 65 & Military Members: $8, Museum Members and Children Under 5: Free.  Hurst Planetarium, Ella Sharp Museum.

Dinosaur Safari Exhibit at Ella Sharp Museum. Dinosaur Safari, an immersive exhibit for children and families now open at the Ella Sharp Museum. The nearly 2,500-square-foot exhibit features seven animatronic dinosaurs as well as hands-on stations that help children imagine themselves as paleontologists.  The incredible world of Dinosaur Safari features colorful and life-like dinosaurs, including the Triceratops and T. Rex!  In addition to the dinosaurs that move and roar, there is one climbable dinosaur for children to explore. Designed to immerse children in a world of dinosaurs and paleontology, children can play dress up in a safari tent, pretend to drive a safari jeep, and uncover large realistic fake fossils in two dig stations. The imaginative traveling exhibit is produced by Omaha Children’s Museum.  Open during museum hours.

Hidden Women of Color.  A Pop-Up Exhibit Featuring the Art of Jerome Washington during March 2023.  Whatever task they tackled, whatever sacrifices they made, whatever boundaries they had to cross. The Hidden Women of Color are women who made a choice to do what they had to do despite the cost.  One common thread that seems to fuel these remarkable women: To help and elevate others.  It has been a labor of love to discover these women, their achievements and to bring them out of the shadows. The Ella Sharp Museum is proud to feature this pop-up exhibit throughout the month of March.
