This time we’ll celebrate the Kentucky Derby with their official drink.  Join us for our Tale of a Cocktail – Mint Julep. Just days after the Run For The Roses at the Kentucky Derby, we’ll be celebrating with their libation of choice. Kids Planetarium Show:  Imagine the Moon.  12 PM.  When was the last time you looked at the Moon? Not Just noticed it, but really looked at it? To most of us the Moon seems like an afterthought, a thing we might notice in passing and then not give a second glance. But the Moon’s place in our lives is so much more than just its physical presence in the sky. It is a constant companion in our collective imagination.  Hurst Planetarium, Ella Sharp Museum.

May Planetarium Show:  The Hot and Energetic Universe.  4 PM.  High Energy Astrophysics explores hot gas in clusters of galaxies, which are the most massive objects in the universe. It also probes hot gas accretion around supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies. This documentary uses immersive visualizations and real images from modern astronomy to dive into the basic principles of electromagnetic radiation and the natural phenomena related to High Energy Astrophysics.  Hurst Planetarium, Ella Sharp Museum.

DSLR 2.  10 AM.  In this second class in our series, you will learn more about camera controls, metering, exposure, focusing and more. We also clover white-balance settings, polarizing filters and neutral density filters.  Topics: Getting the most out of your DSLR, Metering modes, Auto exposure/focus lock, Auto bracketing, Exposure adjustment, Setting a custom white balance, Auto focus modes, Focusing areas, Meta data, UV and polarizing filters, Compositions and effects, Rule of thirds, Natural frames, Point of view, Get in close, Patterns.  Picture This…Jackson, 315 S. JDL Summer Discover Sign-Up.  Track your reading, win prizes, and discover something new in an all-ages reading challenge.  Simply read anything (yes, anything, from daunting novels to breezy comics) between June 1 and July 31, log your time online, and enter to win a wide variety of prizes including gift cards to local favorites like Cascades Ice Cream, Jackson 10 Movie Theater, Meckley’s Flavor Fruit Farm, Axe Play, and the Jackson YMCA, among other prizes. Every four hours read gets you an entry into a prize drawing of your choice.  Parents and guardians of those who can’t read earn a free book for signing up and another for completing the program. A total of two hours of reading to your toddler or loved one enters them into a prize drawing. 4th Annual Al Glick Youth Football Camp Sign-Up.  The 4th Annual Al Glick Youth Football Camp is Saturday, June 17th at Dungy Field at Withington Stadium at Jackson High School.  Open to Jackson County Kids entering 4th through 9th grade this Fall, this one-day camp will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with check-in at 9.    Kids get breakfast and lunch, non-contact instruction by current high school coaches, former Collegiate & Professional players, and a drawstring gift bag with a camp t-shirt.  Register your kids today by visiting the Camp Facebook page, or in person at the Jackson Recreation Department, 161 W. Jackson College Boys Baseball Camp Sign-Up.  Boys Baseball Camp will play ball again this summer at Jackson College! Boys ages 6-14 can practice the game at a two-day camp, June 19-20 from 9 a.m. to noon., on the baseball fields on Central Campus (2111 Emmons Road, Jackson, MI  49201).   Baseball camp will teach fundamental skills in the sport – catching, batting, pitching, fielding, rules of the game and more. Boys can develop their overall fitness while having fun with others.  Cost is $85 for the camp. Campers will receive a T-shirt and should bring a glove, hat, water bottle and bat, if possible.
