Venezuela My Story…Your Future?  Hear the real-life story of a Venezuelan asylum seeker.  11:30 – 12:00 pm – Lunch.  12:00 – 1:00 pm – Program with Q & A.  My Story … Your Future?  The Real-life Story of a Venezuelan Asylum Seeker — Spring Arbor University.  Jorge Galicia had to leave his life in Venezuela after an oppressive regime crippled the economy, caused widespread starvation, blanketed the nation in blackouts, and silenced and jailed those who dared to speak out and criticize the government. With an eyewitness perspective he answers the question: How did a country with so much wealth and promise completely collapse? Could it happen in the United States?  Hot Air Jubilee Art Contest.  The Hot Air Jubilee is hosting an art contest!  The contest is open to legal residents of the State of Michigan. Contestants must be age 13 or older at time of entry.  Parents or guardians of minors under the age of 13 can submit entries on behalf of their minor(s). The Hot Air Jubilee is looking for art submissions that will be used in marketing the 2022 festival.. Wednesday Skate and Laser Tag.  6:00-8:00 PM.  Allskate Fun Center. $8.  $4 for any type of skate rental / Skate Mates $5 + Deposit.  Super Fun Pass only $14 includes: Skating, rental skates, 10 game tokens each, 1 game of Laser Tag.  Laser Tag Hours 6-8 pm.  1 Play: $6 Double Play: $9.  Allskate Fun Center, 1313 W. North Street, Jackson.

Fall Back to Fitness at Jackson YMCA.  $0 join fees all this month! Save up to $100 when you sign up for membership in person or online at www.jacksonymca.org New extended hours start this week at the Jackson YMCA.  The Downtown location is now open until 5 pm on Saturdays and open Sundays 11 am – 3 pm.

Weekly Food Drop.  The Weekly Food Drops will take place every Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Volunteers will be distributing pre-assembled food boxes directly to cars at The Arbor Church, 120 East Main Street, Spring Arbor.  No restrictions, everyone is welcome. While supplies last! 

Art and Photo Contest.  The Center for Family Health has announced it is holding an art and photo contest in conjunction with the health center’s 30th anniversary celebration.    The contest is open to all professional and amateur artists or photographers living in Jackson, Michigan, aged 12 and up. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works in all mediums, styles and disciplines as well as photographic works that include old and new processes are allowed. Photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both are also allowed.   Entries will be evaluated by a jury and displayed at the Center for Family Health.  All featured artists and photographers will be invited to an opening reception.  

Prize Categories include:

Ages 12-14:  1st place -$500, 2nd place – $250, 3rd place – $125

Ages 15-18:  1st place -$500, 2nd place – $250, 3rd place – $125

Ages 19+:      1st place -$1,000, 2nd place – $600, 3rd place – $300

Downtown Jackson Witch Hunt.  5 PM to 8 PM.  Put on your fun or scary witches costume and join us for a fun filled evening.  

To Participate in the Witch Hunt Challenge

1. Download the new Experience Jackson App on your phone.
(Challenge must be completed on a smart phone)

2. Once you download app, click on “Challenges” icon.

3. Select “Downtown Jackson Witch Hunt”.

4. Click into any of the objectives in the list to get the address of the participating location.

5. Visit that location

6. Look for location’s “witch” and either find her name or ask an employee at that location for their unique witch name (code).

7. In app, “enter code” and click “Submit code”. Type code in all CAPS and spell the name exactly.

8. Once you get at least 8 of the codes entered, submit your challenge. You are then entered to win a Downtown Jackson gift basket! NOTE – You must provide an email address to submit your final entry.

Winner will be drawn at Grand River Brewery immediately following the event (after 8 pm). One completed Witch Hunt challenge per person. No purchase is required to participate – but buying local is always encouraged. No age requirement to participate. You do not need to be present to win. Winner will be contacted to pick up prize following event. If not present, winner will be contacted via email following the event.

Other Activities include:

– Pop-up shops, a super-fun mobile photo studio and fortuneteller, courtesy of The Brokerage House.
– Gilbert Chocolates will have free hot chocolate available at their location.
– Grand River Brewery will feature a special “Witches Brew” drink the night of the event.
– Jackson Candle Company will host a pop up at their location.
– Best costume contest – Additional gift basket will be rewarded to the best costume. This will be done in person at Grand River Brewery event (immediately following the end of the Witch Hunt (8 pm).
